I just got my self another Standard 8mm " Ultrasonic Sound " 400 footer.
Well that's another one ticked off from my " childhood wants list ".
SPARTACUS The Gladiator ... Not the Kirk Douglas one but an Italian dubbed english one from Heritage Films.
In glorious monochrome and probably "wowy" soundtrack. .... Hahahahaha !!!!

Well done David, the "Spartacus the Gladiator" was directed by the great Italian director Riccardo Freda, friend of Mario Bava,
it was made in the town of Verona, using the arena used in "Barabbas" with Anthony Quinn, the same space where men actually fought to
the death, It was also featured in an "Inspector Morse" episode. The complete feature used to be available for hire from Derann in their std 8mm hire catalogue as an 11 reel feature, probably mounted on 6x400 spools. As an interesting point, the end of the film is more historically correct than the Kubrick film, Spartacus died in battle, his body was never identified. I have had the film twice before, I thought the lead resembled Robert Stack, of Elliott Ness fame, but a damn good 2 reels of action, enjoy.

Hugh... thanks for that information regarding the film. I already knew some of the stuff regarding the Director and Bava.
However I never knew about the rest so cheers for that.
Do you know if the film score by RENZO ROSSELLINI was ever released on records ?
The film was also titled SINS OF ROME , STORY OF SPARTACUS among other titles.
I remember the DFS Standard 8mm Hire prints. In fact I still have the original catalogue with it in it.
Still that's great information you gave me Hugh. I am happy to know such things.

Thanks for those kind words David, you have a really nice way with words. I shall check on some of the Italian companies, a source you might try is Lionel Woodman, who might throw light on your soundtrack request, he is the source for Italian film scores. A bit of information on how the roman's fought, when in line with a foe, stabbing through shield protection, only a few inches of blade was exposed, in fighting, the men at the front were relieved after twenty minutes, to present a tireless fighter. The "Immortals", the Persian fighting legends, were kept in name by the fact that when a man fell ,he was replaced, hence the name "Immortal" I take off
my hat to these guys, either soldier or gladiator, what courage these men had, on either side.

Hugh ... Oh yes Lionel Woodman I almost forgot about him. I used to buy from him years ago.
In fact he even sold me some Lps from his own collection to me that I had been looking for years.
I still have them. Thanks for the further info regarding the fighting techniques of that period in
history. Most interesting. I think I will try it them out on some of the local neds. hahaha !!!

I have been thinking that looking back that the ending of Kubrick's SPARTACUS does seem a bit "Cheesy" now .
"I am Spartacus " ..." I am Spartacus" ... "I am Spartacus". I feel like shouting outing out ... " NO ! He is bloody Spartacus "
hahahaha !

I know exactly what you mean Dave, but unfortunately I've been there when your back up is no longer there, it is a bit of a pisser, hence
my aggression with managers etc, its you or nought, fortunately I don't back off, but can see the funny side of saying, "yes, its him, that's the bugger you want!" What a film that would make. Kubrick would be in shock.

Hugh I can empathise with your experiences with certain Managers.
I was at one time a Trade Union rep within the Cinema Industry so I share your experiences.

I just received a sound 200' for Disney's "Dumbo the Flying Elephant", with a nice box and a nice long leader attached to it. On Sunday I FINALLY won a 400' digest of "Sky Riders" (1976). I REALLY like that movie! I discovered that one when Doug sent me a 200' b/w silent reel of it. I was intrigued by it enough to seek out the full feature online. After seeing it, I just HAD to find me a copy of it on REEL film!

Bought some from Super8Warehouse.com that I watched yesterday. Buck and the Preacher, 400', Scram 400' Walton with Dutch subs and a 2x400' of Rhubarb. Fitted onto a 600' reel now. I guess it must be edited? Should run 37 minutes, but 600' would not be enough? I think reel two was fourteen minutes

Vidar! Have you checked if it`s acetate or polyester? If it is polyester, it may be complete, as the filmbase is thinner.

Not checked, but since reel 2 ran just around 14 minutes, I think it might be edited

It would appear a large chunk of posting time has been deleted from this Thread Vidar?

I still think it was the right choice to remove Davids admin rights. Too bad, was nice to see what people got I think. Sorry to all who posted and was deleted (hopefully it was only the ones demanding it)
