Last night we viewed this excellent film which my Brother purchased from the Derann stall some years ago at Ealing. The film made in 1970 stars Alec Guinness, Richard Harris, Frank Finlay, Timothy Dalton and Charles Grey to name a few.

The film received two Oscar nominations during the 43rd Academy Awards held in 1971, winning one for Best Costume Design by Vittorio Nino Novarese, but losing another for Best Original Score, composed by Frank Cordell. It was also nominated for a British Academy of Film and Television Award (BAFTA) in Costume Design and a Golden Globe for Best Original Score. At the 7th Moscow International Film Festival in 1971 it won the award for Best Actor (Richard Harris), and was nominated for the Golden Prize as Best Picture (Ken Hughes). The film received negative reviews for historical inaccuracies and I can vouch for this as my Brother, a local historian, always states all the inaccuracy during the film, and there is quite a lot of them, however, praise went to the acting, (particularly Harris and Guinness), the score and costume design.

A scope print of this would be great, but this is what we bought for £99 at the convention and the print itself is very good indeed. Great colours on Agfa stock and just one single splice throughout the whole movie on reel three. The only light lines, (two of them) are on reel two but when we go to view it next time, a quick clean with filmguard should take care of them. The film is mounted onto four 1600ft spools with reel four being around 4000/500 feet. The sound as always on 16 is very good. My own personal opinion for this movie is, I don’t care much for the music score by Frank Cordell.
Over all this is an excellent colour print in very good condition.
