I decided to sit down with a cuppa and look through my FFTC magazines starting back to issue 12,the oldest one i have), and there is loads of good stuff and great film reviews from Kieth Wilton not to mention great articles i had forgotton about.

One which caught my eye was Davids "oldest Buff" item. In it he says he would like to find out who the oldest collector is , (this was in the 1999 issue 43).
More interestingly i was reading that his Father had bought a Dansan 16mm projector but was always breaking down so he bought a Debrie D16 which at the time was £182.00. (at that time he adds a house could have been bought for £300 I am guessing that David still has this machine today and i would love to know more about this machines history please if you read this.
If you still have it do you still use it?
As it happens i found this one on ebay,

If i had the cash spare and wanted a good condition early projector this looks as good as any one could find.

Have i told anyone i'm after Die Hard?

2/3 of the price of a house. I think I shall stop complaining about an expensive hobby :-)

The Debrie D16 is a great projector. I have two grey models. One is original with 750 watt lamp (A1/52.) The other has been modernised with a transistorised amplifier and uses a 24V 250W lamp (A1/258). The clever design of the D16 uses the light from the lamp to scan the film optics, There is no separate exciter lamp.

They were used a great deal by the Forces, each part is quickly interchangeable, and can be done without little technical knowledge.

One drawback is their weight, they were not really intended to be moved about too much. One with its stand is more desirable, otherwise it has to be positioned for the take-up spool to overhang where it is standing.

The FFTC magazines really did cover the whole scene of the collecting world as was back then and that often included interesting articles and artefacts from the collectors at large themselves.

I love still reading through them fairly regularly even to this day and while there are still a few I don't have, what I do have now covers all the era's they were published from and to. From issue 1 to over 65.
I particularly enjoy the earlier magazines when Derann was enjoying their renaissance period and beyond around issue 35 the magazines began to get fewer pages in them, focussed often on digital projection and featured far fewer new Super 8mm released films than those earlier bumper editions.

The 30 years in film special bumper edition with die hard illustration on the front and rear covers was always a particular favourite of mine.

A great great publication and the likes of which, we will never ever see again sadly.

Richard Horton-Bradley from Leicester, I take it you're referring to David, from his appeal on Film-Tech?
