Question for Alessandro or Bill.

#1 by Andrew Woodcock ( deleted ) , Fri Jan 27, 2017 4:57 pm

To these guys or indeed anyone who has experience of using these machines....

What do I need to obtain Pulse Sync facility from the SH 30?
It has a socket and a switch position on the rear motor/speed control section to facilitate this, but the manual speaks of a separate intermediate controller by Fuji. It uses an unusual 6 pin Din socket with a centre pin to use in conjunction with their controller, but is it possible to feed it a pulse from a PC and if so what connections do I need to make to a plug, assuming I could find one?

Thanks Alessandro and yes, my initial impressions of it, beyond of course the minor niggle probable as a result of being transported, are all positive.
First, i couldn't get over how heavy these are! Much much bigger and heavier than an ST 1200 despite at first glance looking somewhat similar.
Secondly, the image quality was stunning albeit not AS bright or as white a light as the Beaulieu on two blades, as is only to be expected.
Then the last thing that initially really impressed me, was the power and brilliance of the amp in these!
Really really powerful for a mono only machine.

No doubt about it, first impressions, I'm suitably impressed! And i don't say that easily of these things,

I will put my feelers out to a broader spectrum and see where that takes me regarding the Pulse Sync capabilities on these.
Everything is in place, it's just a case of knowing how to use it!

It is amazing how many variants there are on din plugs/sockets, the GS1200 uses a plug with a centre pin for its pulse input, the usual pins are 4 and 5, there is info on Google for various din connectors and pin numbers, I have been looking for my Fuji service information that includes diagrams, but as yet no luck locating it, a circuit would be a help if anyone has one ?

Thank You kindly Bill. i am going to see if I can locate the drawings from Oldtimers Cameras. If they have a service manual, I may be in luck!

They don't advertise one, but that doesn't mean they won't entirely have something.

THESE MAY HELP YOU ANDREW, ALTHOUGH THEY MAY NOT BE AN EXACT MATCH FOR THE FUJI. WITH ONLY FIVE PINS JUST A PROCESS OF ELIMINATION. IF THIS LOCKS TO A PULSE
INPUT, CREATE ONE WITH AUDACITY, A SQUARE WAVEFORM AND COME OUT YOUR COMPUTER.

Hi Andrew,
Just puzzles me why you would want pulse sync on a mono machine,if it was a stereo machine for recording i could see your need, sorry to ask this, Mark.

Yes valid point that Mark. More on that in a moment.

First I must thank Paul for his assistance here. That Din socket looks identical mate!
Hopefully, as both machines are Japanese, they may have used the exact same standard wiring. That's the hope anyhow.

Right, back to Marks point. You're right of course, this WILL only produce a perfectly synchronized track on the main track only, but for many films, that's good enough!

Many a film only came originally recorded on the main stripe and wasn't in stereo.
While I love recording them all again in Stereo using the Bauer's, it is time consuming using the methods I use.
It's enjoyable, but very time consuming.

If I can speed the process up for even some of the films, then bring it on I say! 😊

That's a very old thread here Mark!

I will try and find it again from the archives here Mark.
When I do, I will post a link on here.

I'm sure you'll be most amused surrounding some of the comments and banter back then between David, Hugh and myself! 😂😂

HOW DOES IT PICK UP THE PULSE'S ANDREW, AS THE ELMO HAS A LITTLE METER ON THE BACK PANEL TO SHOW PULSE 'S WHICH ARE SET TO CENTRE POSITION, PERHAPS YOU HAVE AN LED OR SOMETHING SIMILAR. I'LL BE SURPRISED IF ITS NOT SIMILAR TO THE ELMO SETUP, THERE MUST BE A REED SWITCH NEAR THE SHUTTER DRIVE SHAFT SENDING PULSE'S AND THEN MATCHING THIS TO THE INCOMING PULSE'S FROM THE SOURCE INPUT, THIS SEEMS TO BE THE ROUTE TAKEN BY MANY AT THE TIME THESE WERE MANUFACTURED.

I'm still highly intrigued by this "Pulse Sync Controller" that Fuji apparently produced.

I've seen the one for the Braun. Obviously, I've seen the many available for GS's from many a supplier, I've seen the Beaulieu and Bauer machines being slaved by extra circuitry driving the motor from a Pedro Box, however I can't ever recall anywhere ever seeing a box capable of controlling a Fujicascope projector??

Having only received it this morning Paul, I haven't the foggiest how it works sorry??

No meter though, nor any led's???

The instruction manual is good, but very concise I have to say.
So no clues here, not even a model number in the optional extras from what I've seen so far.

THATS IT EIVIND, QUITE A COMMON PLUG LESS THAN A COUPLE OF POUNDS ON LINE. I HAVE THE BRAUN BOX ANDREW AND THE OTHER TWO CRYSTAL LOCKING UNITS FOR THE ELMO. THE BRAUN ONE IS QUITE A BIT MORE THAN THE OTHER TWO, PEDRO'S BOX MIGHT DO IT TOO.

If it's a version one GS 1200, I believe the Sync Pulse boxes only work at 18fps.
For the later ones I believe they work well at 24fps also.

I so wish I could find a Pedro box Paul. I've never ever seen the 6008 for sale once.

If I could find one, I'd have a go at making the circuit board that controls the Bauer motor. I have a photo and may have a drawing somewhere for the circuit, but I simply haven't ever been able to get past step one with this.

I HAVE A MK3 STANDARD GS WHICH WORKS FINE AT 24 FPS, THE OTHER DOES 25 FPS AND LOCKS THE ELMO INSTANTLY. THE BRAUN BOX COUNTS AT DIFFERENT INTERVALS SO CAN BE SWITCHED ,THIS CAN BE USED WITH THERE HIGH END BRAUN CAMERA'S TOO.
