Another Film-Tech Forum update from Doug....

#1 by Greg Perry , Sat Feb 20, 2021 3:32 pm

It appears the rolling power outages (intentional electrical power shutdowns implemented to avoid a total blackout) throughout Texas have caused the 8mm Forum’s database to be corrupted. Ouch! This weekend will be spent restoring that database from the most recent backup. The Forum should be back online early next week.

Best wishes,
Doug

You wonder how safe anything is these days, with important details stored electronically instead of old fashioned paper.

I think the internet, as far as security is concerned, sucks. Its too easy for people to get masses of information, here on the UK recently, a Police force "allegedly, accidentally erased the details of over thousands of arrest records. As follows,

The National Police Chiefs' Council said 213,000 records were deleted - more than the 150,000 first reported.
This resulted in a couple of "near misses" for serious crimes when trying to identify an offender, it said.
The Home Office has said it is assessing the impact of the mistake.

What\t utter nonsense, some accidently press the delete key? Rubbish, this is how easy computer databases are to either hack, or as in the case of the tech forum, corrupt. If i recall, the new forum update was necessary for security purposes etc. This is the modern age.

I feel it sad that none of the other channels crowd have at least joined in on here even if just to try it.

its good to see it back but looking at the feedback, i still cant understand why no one joined in here, even if just temporary. No need to miss out, there's more than one forum.
