Projectors in films

#1 by Gwyn Morgan , Mon May 18, 2020 9:28 am

I was watching the Michael Caine film Get Carter on tv last night and during a bedroom sequence he turns on a B and H 16mm Machine which is beside the bed,as you do.This is the second film I have seen recently with Caine in and he has 16mm projectors used as part of the story ,the other being The Ipcress File. Also some weeks ago I saw a 16mm projector in The Liquidator which I put up here.
I was wondering how many other films have had 16 mm projectors as an integral part of the story.Thinking about it I seem to remember a projector in the latest film about Churchill.
Just thought it was unusual to see projectors appearing so often and I’m sure they are always Bell and Howell.
Anyone else noticed?📽📽📽📽

It's always interesting when you see a projector in a film, and try to see what make it is. Usually Bell&Howell, but I did see one Eiki. I've seen them in TV shows, 'The Professionals', 'The Sweeney', and 'Quincy'. There is a Super 8 projector in one of the 'Saint' episodes with Roger Moore. I was forgetting an episode of 'Columbo' where Janet Leigh plays a faded actress who watches 16mm prints of her films.

We can't see which projector is used, but we have a 16mm projector in the National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation:

Gremlins has one too, do not remember if you see type they used. I enjoyed this thread on film tech, lots of entries there

Don't forget "enter the dragon" with Bruce getting his instructions from his contact on mainland Hong Kong, and projector showing him who's who, on "his Island fortress really ".

Hi Gwyn,
This is a fun topic you have started...
Here is a 16mm trailer for the film 'Wizards' by Ralph Bakshi....with a cartoon projector showing some Nazi images (pictures #3 and 4)...Interesting animation that is part drawing and part stylized image-based....This trailer is on Eastman Safety with some fade sadly....

Still has a lot of colour. I did read that after 15 or 20 years the fading slows down or stops altogether. I'm hoping this is true, as I have one or two Eastman that have nearly all their colour, it's just weaker.
