Here is something that was in a 400 ft. film can that I recently picked up. I am curious if anyone knows what the "solution specially prepared by CinePro" was made of.....

Not sure about Cinepro's solution, but here is a formula from the British Journal Almanac 1960:-

Glycerol 1.5 oz
Distilled water 7 oz
Camphor 1 oz
Menthol 0.5 oz
Ethyl alcohol or other spirit 2 oz
Oil of eucalyptus 1oz
Oil of wintergreen 0.25 oz
Oil of thyme 0.25 oz
Oil of baptisia 0.25 oz
Oil of mint 0.25 oz

Add glycerol to distilled water and mix for Solution A. Dissolve camphor and menthol in the spirit to make Solution B. Mix the oils together and add to B. Then add B to A.
Shake well before using.
A few drops on the pad of a 400ft humidor can is adequate.
Store the film in a cool place.

I believe that a made-up solution was available many years ago from your friendly cine dealer.

Maurice,

I have heard of using camphor---one of the ingredients in the formula you shared---to help keep diactetate films from "drying" out. Apparently the camphor helps keep the film more pliable.
I have never tried it out myself. Interesting that essential oils are part of the formula too.
