Combat Vic Morrow, Series 1 episode 13 Reunion

#1 by Tom Photiou , Fri Aug 06, 2021 7:59 pm

Last night we viewed a Bilko episode to start with, followed by this early series 1, episode 13 of the TV war drama Combat, starring Vic Morrow. This episode was first aired on January 1st 1963.
This story surrounds a man in Saunder’s squad, Pvt Paul Villers. He has been looking for his father Emile Villers in the little village of Beauville, France that they just had a battle in.
Pvt. Paul Villers is played by Chris Robinson.
A really good action opening for this episode sets the mood for the next 50 minutes. This is a good tense and action packed reel with excellent b/w image and very good sound throughout. Only a few minor lines on this print which must be a fair few years old now.

Now whats the chances of capturing that advert break marker on image three while taking images during projection?
I was going to delete this image but i think its a good reminder of how things use to be.

Looks very good for a show of that vintage. I agree, you catching that blip was a throw of the dice.

Tom,

Those cue marks, while noticeable are very brief...a small tradeoff for an enjoyable film show. Very sad how Vic Morrow was killed by the helicopter rotor during the filming of "Twilight Zone: The Movie". He really excelled in his roles portraying a soldier. He was the father of Jennifer Jason Leigh of "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" fame--a classic high-school comedy here in the US.

I always liked Vic Morrow, he always seemed to be on TV in the UK in the 60s. Cue marks remind us we are watching a real film.

Cheers Mark, Vic Morrow, as Greg Said, was killed on the set of The Twilight Zone movie, it is horribly captured to see on youtube, also equally horrifying was that he was carrying two children who also died with him, they wouldn't have known anything about it. I watched a documentary on this some time ago and was horrified to see how people like John Landis and Spielberg seemed to play it all down as an accident, the family explained how they were more or less dumped by Hollywood as they all clamed up to coverup the failings on set.
Vic Morrows Daughter is Jennifer Jason Leigh (born Jennifer Leigh Morrow) who was Daisy Domergue in The Hateful Eight.
