#1 by Gwyn Morgan , Tue Apr 06, 2021 6:13 pm

Picked this little gem up today been in storage for the last twenty years at least, came with transformer but no leads.
Powered up and works but obviously in need of some TLC.
Nice little project should keep me busy for a while😀

Gwyn,

Looks pretty clean in the inside compartment which is often a good sign for being able to get it back to A-1 functioning!

Spent the morning taking the machine apart they are dead easy to work on ,four screws and the amp is out ,followed by lamp out eight screws later lamp housing apart and you can pretty much get at most of the inner workings.
Good clean up remove the cobwebs, and hoover out the surrounding case etc ,free up anything that needs it basically a good clean is so far all it needs and hopefully in the next 24 hrs a film will again run on the machine.
As you say Robert hopefully this machine will keep going,to be honest I got it more from a nostalgic point of view,as these were the first type of machine I used for 16mm back in the day.
Anyway fingers crossed.

Thank you Maurice for the information, very useful. When I removed the lamp and cleaned off the dust it was like new.I don’t think this machine has had much use just left to gather dust, but fortunately in good conditions. The lamp is cheap as chips,I shall see how I get on with the amplifier next. Thanks again Maurice.

How great to have a projector that is easy to work on. Some of the later complex projectors can be daunting to open. Looks very clean too! Glad you found this well preserved piece!

One thing. It won't have trouble with its worm.
For many years I had its predecessor, the 601. Now I have the last blimp model, the 8636 Maritime. So called as it's an AC/DC mains model. It also has a small detachable loud speaker inside the case. Without a transformer it's a true single case model.

Maurice,it must be nice not to have a transformer, they weigh nearly as much as the projector itself and you have the hassle of the leads .
Still got it going today, the picture was fine rock steady and clear ,not so good sound ,it was there just not very loud so I guess the amp needs more TLC.I could hear it fine as long as I was near the projector and the volume was turned right up.
Might have to get some new valves in due course.

Gwyn
There is a small mirror behind the sound drum which deflects the sound track 90 degrees onto the PEC. This often gets dirty, and even its reflectiveness diminishes.
Also, the PEC might need changing. It's a CG which operates at 90 volts.
