Ciro Guillotine Catazzo splicer for super 8

#1 by Tom Photiou , Sat Apr 18, 2020 10:54 am

I wouldn't mind knowing a little bit more on this item please.

I purchased the CIR deluxe splicer for our super 8s and while i am more than happy with the splices, i find it a bit odd that after placing the tape and pressing down, i have to take the film up and flip the tape over for the second side. While the splices are excellent, i do think that our old quick splice tapes are also very good, in fact those old quick splice tapes we used for years were cut in half to cover the two frames, the results are still very good.

Would this one in question by chance be a 16mm one that the company simply fitted with a super 8 track?

Tom
I think you are correct.
It looks very similar to my 16mm CIR and, as you say, fitted for Super 8. It has a diagonal cutter for magnetic film splicing.
All originally designed for cinema 35mm use.

Out of curiosity, why is the cutter for magnetic an angles cut please?

To stop an abrupt click. The join passes more slowly over the sound track.

Thought you might like to see it’s father(16mm) and grandfather (35mm) neither of which has the magnetic cut.

Gwyn
The 16mm CIR you show has two cutting blades, the one on the far right is the magnetic film cutter.
