Pinchcliff Grand Prix

Super 8, 400' color and sound.

This is an absolute classic in Norway and for a few decades the most viewed film in the cinemas. A bicycle repairman, Reodor Felgen, finds out that his former assistant, Rudolf Blodstrupmoen, has stolen the drawings fora revolutionary engine enhancement and with this become a racing star. The repairman, and his two friends (two animals) get funded by a rich oil sheik and builds a racing car to compete in the Grand Prix against his former assistant. They get sabotaged at night, but after a few bumps in the road at the race ends up winning with some amazing driving.

This film is THE biggest cinema experience for me as a child. The racing scenes still creates some butterflies in my stomach. I wish I had the full feature which is only available in 16mm, but this is very hard to find.

As a side note: While studying at the University of Oslo, the university's film club had a film night each year where they showed films all night. Well into the night Pinchcliff Grand Prix is shown every year. And each year the audience is divided in the middle where one side supports Reodor Felgen and the other with Rudolf Blodstrupmoen. I didn't know this the first time and was amazed to see the other side shout for Blodstrupmoen and saying "THIS time we'll win" :-) It was like being at a real sports event :-) Quite an experience :-)

I took some new screenshots today:

Eivind,
This looks to be some very well-done and intricately detailed stop-motion animation...do you know what year this was made?

1975 indeed. Full feature stop motion animation. I have fiddled with stop motion animations myself. Just short stuff of less than a minute. It is a LOT of work, and I have great help of a digital editor showing the last frame compared to the new. I can't even imagine how difficult it was without such tools. It is amazing. Especially a scene with an orchestra playing correctly to the tune with several players.
