Tape splices

I'm posting this in the 16mm section, as I haven't encountered this problem in Super 8. I've had to replace a number of tape splices on films I have bought, as on inspection I found they had stretched, there was a very fine gap between the frame lines. Is this typical of 16mm tape splices over time. With the heavier reels, I would imagine the pull on the splice would be much greater than that of Super 8.

This is typical of an old 16mm print with tape splices. These pulled splices often need more work replacing them than badly made cement splices. And, yes, it doesn't seem to affect Super 8 films, although they are probably not as old as most 16mm prints.
