New Splicer from Mr Guest

#1 by Robert Crewdson ( deleted ) , Sat Feb 10, 2018 2:18 pm

Received my CIR splicer from Mr Guest this week. it's a top of the range model; MK3 2T Special. Has adjustable pins for old or shrunken film, and clips to hold down film that might have curled edges. David told me he has about 5 other CIR splicers, so if anyone is thinking of getting one, I would do so now, while they are still available.

Noticed the cutter at an angle, would that be used for mag fullcoat?

I still love the smell of film in the morning

Yes it would David, though I don't know anything about that.

The diagonal cutter is used on magnetic full-coat 16mm with sound tracks.

When the sound splice passes the tape replay head, because of the diagonal cut, the outgoing track mixes into the incoming track and eliminates the "blip" sound. For optical tracks they used to use opaque blooping ink over each splice applied with a brush in a curved thumbnail shape.

I used the diagonal cutter recently to transfer some old centre track recordings on fullcoat.

What will be your buy, 16mm or 8mm for this kind?
