Another outdoor screening - The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

#1 by Vidar Olavesen , Fri Aug 28, 2015 1:18 am

Bakgaardsfilm in Fredrikstad showed the excellent The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, 180 minutes version (English extended)

Here's the projector they use (this is taken from a newer event)

Your second outdoor screening of 35 mm in a few days. And a load of 16 mm at abargain price. You a surely a lucky guy.

35mm sure looks amazing Vidar on those modest sized screens. Simply incredible clarity!

Of course it looks better on screen. This is taken with a slightly crappy Samsung Galaxy S3 ... Why, oh why can't I turn off autofocus?

Auto sucks, love manual settings

Looks pretty darned good to me Vidar! Cannot imagine just how good then if you are saying these photos don't do the film justice!

What kind of lamp power is illuminating that lovely print Vidar?

Their loss indeed Vidar. How come all of the neat film related events happen in Norway?

LOL! It's a thought Vidar! Not much going on where I live, unless you enjoy living in a very rural area. It would be a good place to make a sequel to "Children of the Corn"!

8kw!!! Crikey, we couldn't afford the electric bill here Vidar let alone the film and equipment! I tell my 17 year old son off for being in the shower longer than is necessary ( typically 30minutes), the bathroom looks like a bloody Sauna when he's done with it....

He could have a shower for two hours at a time for the cost of running that baby!!

How do you come by 35mm prints of this quality Vidar?
Who even sells them? I thought they are all owned by the film or television companies?

I have seen plenty of trailers but not too many features of great titles like this one.

Must admit though, I did see Back To The Future 3 advertised for sale only yesterday for a fraction of what it would be at if it was on 16mm or had been released on 8mm

This is not mine. It is the property of some comany that rents out to film clubs. All legal this.

I do believe 35mm often is cheaper than 16mm which again is cheaper than Super 8. Kinda weird.

I know some selling 35mm in UK, so there is prints available

I bought a collection of 40 features recently. 36 35mm and 4 16mm. Over a ton of films.I payed appx 10£ each. It was a pig in a poke buy, but there are many great titles in good condition. If you search, you will sometimes make a find.

Hi Andrew, if you go onto Ebay.com, you will find 35mm features sometimes for sale, and some are at giveaway prices. I wouldn't have the room for 35mm or a projector. Super 8 is the dearest to collect. Not long back I saw an old western serial in 12 episodes in 35mm, as this was from the 1930s I wonder if it was nitrate; I couldn't see this being printed in the late 50s, unless it was for a children's matinee.
