Todays Monday matinee is one of my favourite films..The 1949 film of Graham Greenes novel The Third Man directed byCarol Reed and starring Orson Welles,Joseph Cotten,Alisa Vali,Trevor Howard,Bernard Lee and Wilfred Hyde-White.A simple story of Harry Limes school friend Holly Martins( Cotten) who is out of work who travels to post war Vienna on the promise of a job, only to find Lime(Welles),has been killed in a road accident.Talking to Limes friends he soon discovers nothing is what it seems and he is determined to find out the truth about Harry Lime.
From the opening titles throughout the film there is the Harry Lime theme by composer Anton Karas. The film is on three 1600 reels with no splices and all leaders and tails intact. It is in black and white and my print has excellent sound and the condition of the print I would describe as very good.
As I say one of my favourite films and if you have not seen it I recommend it .It certainly stands the test of time the story and character’s have lost nothing over the years.
