Steve Osborne hosted a fantastic film viewing event at his home on Saturday September 25. About a dozen of us enjoyed a great outdoor film show, including forum members Dave Baker and Bill Phelps. We all enjoyed the pizza, snacks, popcorn---popped at the local theater, candy and soda that was provided.
Dave Baker started the show with a speech about his latest imports and potential future releases. Next up, Steve started things off with some fun daysets, an L&H short, a Harman-Ising cartoon, "Bottles", a "Look at Life" about the 1960's music scene in Liverpool. From there it was on to some fun Adverts, Trailers and Promos.
The first digest we watched was "Godzilla, King of the Monsters". This B&W digest with Raymond Burr had an amazing sharpness and great contrast. "King Kong vs. Godzilla" (1963), is another Dave Films digest with Godzilla and King Kong going toe-to-toe.
Later in the evening, several of us joined Steve in his indoor cinema. Steve and his wife, Jo have really created a beautiful one-of-a-kind home cinema with many unique photos, posters and collectibles. There is also a large, hand-painted Gone With the Wind portrait that Steve obtained from a drive-in that had closed down. Steve is in the last picture in the light blue shirt next to the projection box.
Now it was time for the answer print for the new JAWS digest. This 16mm print was mute, but of course the Super 8 prints will have the proper soundtrack. The edit was very well-done and does the job to tell the whole story in 600 feet. Plenty of gruesome action as well. The color was amazing and the print was very sharp. My pics (below) do not do justice to the high-quality. After JAWS, we watched Dracula/Horror of Dracula with Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing. Beautiful print and a great edit. I am sure I missed some films as it was hard to remember to take pics while watching the action on screen.
Many thanks to Steve and Jo for their kind hospitality. Beyond the enjoyment of the films, it was a big treat to meet and chat with other film collectors in person.
Enjoy these pics--but as always, screen images are sharper than my photos indicate...
