The Black Tent

Watched today, what I thought was a war film turned out to be more a love story. The Black Tent made in 1956 and starring Donald Sinden,Anthony Steele,Anna Maria Sandro and Donald Pleasence. This film is definitely one of its time, when released it had a U certificate so it is harmless drama set in the Second World War.Simply in the African Desert a British soldier,Steele, romances the native chief’s daughter and helps the chief’s tribe fight off the Germans. In between the two marry have a son who may or may not inherit a wealthy English estate after the war.
The film is on 2x1600 which I spooled up one reel,as you can see the colour is starting to turn but other than that no joins good sound and to be honest the slight colour shift was not distracting. The photography was very good and the desert scenes and those in an amphitheater were very good.Interestingly there were no subtitles so the Germans spoke there own language as did the Bedouin.
Something a bit different, photos were taken in semi darkness and do not do the film justice.

Gwyn,

It is always a treat to learn about these less well-known films....looks to be an interesting story too....

Greg,
Yes as I said it’s a bit different and not one you come across.I quite enjoyed it as it was quite short only an hour and a half.

Tom , I have not seen the Red Tent even on the shiny disc, looks good on IMBD with Sean Connery.
The Black Tent was good but it was of its day and sometimes it is nice to watch a film you don’t have to think a lot about.
