What did I last see on 16mm

#1 by David Skillern , Sun Feb 21, 2021 10:16 pm

Well Saturday I screened Artists and Models - Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis and Shirley Maclaine - a great musical comedy, follwed by the Mel Brooks comedy paying homage to Alfred Hitchcock - High Anxiety and finally Charles Bronson and Lee Marvin in Death Hunt and today Sunday i screened the 1980 horror Blood Beach with the great John Saxon and I finished off the day with Hylda Baker and Jimmy Jewell in the feature film of the sitcom Nearest and Dearest.

High Anxiety, great film from Mel Brooks, sounds like a good couple of days viewing films there, Mark

David,

You have been busy---in a good way! I really like the film "Death Hunt". Loosely based on the true story of Albert Johnson, The Mad Trapper of Rat River. In the film though, Johnson is portrayed as a sympathetic character that was framed by the real "Mad Trapper". Here is a Wikipedia article about the real Albert Johnson....https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albert_Johnson_(criminal)

Charles Bronson is always good; I saw 'Nearest and Dearest in Llandudno in 1973, it was the supporting feature to 'Live and Let Die

Clyde,

Blood Beach was a Christmas present and I watched it yesterday and apart from some very light lines at the edge of the image occassionally - the colour is good - so I am very happy with it.

I'm sure I read somewhere that one sequence took nearly 3 months to complete in this film.

What's the colour like Robert? Mark

Totally red, Mark; but I'm fine with that. I don't use filters as I was never satisfied with the results.

I don't like the filters either Robert, its faded and that's that, the thing I dont like about red /faded films is on dark scenes on certain films you cant see what's going on, more a blurry image.

The important thing is you enjoy it, a projected film after all, Mark

I haven't had a blurry image Mark; I do have some of these films on DVD, but prefer to watch my imperfect copy on the big screen than watch it on TV.
