The Spirit of America is another short montage of Hollywood film classics directed by Chuck Workman and with a major contribution by Michael Ray Rhodes to obtain funding and clearances. As many of us will recognize, Chuck Workman also created Precious Images, Pieces of Silver, and many other trailers and films.
SOA is a three-minute long film created in response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks. It was designed to show the unique American spirit and features over 100 films organized within the following categories: Diversity, Defiance, Work, Family, Home, Heroism, Patriotism, Style, Character, Pride and Courage. It is a mix of B&W and color film clips from such greats as Saving Private Ryan, The Deer Hunter, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, The Spirit of St. Louis, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Top Gun, The Searchers. Erin Brockovich, Working Girl, Fargo, Dr. Strangelove, The Blues Brothers, and many others. Music is Aaron Copeland's "Fanfare for the Common Man".
This short film was shown before features in theaters beginning in late 2001, with the hope that it could help lift America's spirits after such a horrifying terror attack. These montages are always enjoyable and a favorite of film audiences. Super 8 prints were distributed by Derann. One fantastic bonus to this print is an additional 'Welcome to the Cinema' opener featuring Rowan Atkinson. With friendly reminders not to smoke, drink alcohol, use the cell phone or other electronic devices it is a super funny and enjoyable bit to add to the start of "The Spirit of America", or any other feature for your film shows. If you like film montages like 'Precious Images' you will undoubtedly enjoy this one too. Image and color quality quite good, with only limitations being that of the pre-print materials used. Highly recommended.
Please note as always: Print is sharper than cell phone pics indicate....
