Restoring original labels

#1 by Tom Photiou , Fri Aug 14, 2020 6:43 pm

Many collectors make there own boxes and artwork, i like to try and scan in an original and use a basic programme to restore it, or at least get it to near original.
While the George Formby souvenir isn't exactly a top title for many, i still thought it was having a go a producing a new label as the original shown in the images, had sellotape used on it. As it gets old, it goes yellow.
This can take ages to do while the Wife catches up with her many TV programmes, i like to relax with this. As you can see i got the sprocket holes too big so had to do it again, these are not how i like them but they will do for now.

Tom,

Thanks for sharing these step-by-step pics. Can you tell me what software you use? Eivind Mork uses GIMP (free) to process images for the Super 8 Database. He has shown me a few basic operations with GIMP, but I have not attempted anything as complex as your restorations...nice work!

Greg, the programme i use is called photostudio 6,its probably a few years out of date now but it does the job and is very easy to use. As always, i dont really use half of the things on the programme to take full advantage of it but as you see, it works very well. I originally bought the programme to restore some very old photos that my Mum has of Grandads/Grans and even older generations.
Most of my film boxes i do are with this programme.

Very nice work! It is fun to improve covers. I have done some work when I add covers to the Super8database. I will try to make a video once with a few basic steps. I am far from a professional, but it is very rewarding to make some small adjustments.

Exactly that Eivind, i have so many to do so i will never be bored. I'm happy to upload them as i do them for you if you would like any. I try and keep it to the original as much as possible unless of course, the film came in a plain box originally.

BTW, If anyone looking see's one they would like, i will also be happy to email a full size upload for you.
