R.I.P. Ennio Morricone

#1 by Eivind Mork , Mon Jul 06, 2020 9:39 am

Ennio Morricone has passed away. His score to The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966) is considered one of the most influential soundtracks in history. By hearing just the first few notes of that, most people's mind are wandering way into the western genre, something most composers can just dream about.

As another huge fan I have to say that he is a great loss to the world of music, especially film themes.Like Tom I too was able to see him live at the O2 in London in 2016 the year he was presented his oscar for the Hateful Eight. He will be remembered most for his western compositions, but as composer he has some 500+ film credits to his name covering all types of film. For me A Fistfull of Dynamite,The Sicilian Clan,Five Man Army,Once Upon a Time In The west and all the spaghetti westerns will live long in the memory of great scores among many, many more.To have his music on records and cds and of course to have your 16mm/8mm films with the music on only add to the pleasure.
As someone sang."thank you for the music".

His score to Once Upon a Time in the West hit me at a ripe time in life. It was a character in the action. Thank you for leaving a wonderful legacy for us, maestro.
