Tonight we viewed our copy of an episode of the brilliant 70s hard hitting Police TV series The Sweeney, this episode is titled "I want the Man". The guest star is Roy Kinnear.
This particular episode has got some good action throughout so Walton chose well to get this episode onto super 8.
We bought it as a 3 x 400 footer and joined it onto 2 x 600 reels using the end of part one and part 2 titles. The reason it didn't go onto a 1200 is simply because it belongs to my Brother who uses hos Eumigs and smaller Elmo most of time. (weird considering he also has a 1200HD!!).
The print is really good on this one, pin sharp and with great colours with no fade what so ever. On the down side, there are a couple of very thin base lines that pop in from time to time but will hopefully be invisible when i give it clean up before any further viewings. Unfortunatly, (as per when we bought it many years ago), there is a bit of a strange orange/red line that appears within the last 50ft, it doesn't stay up, it comes and goes, i managed to capture it in two of the images. Not too sure why its that colour but it doesn't spoil the film too much for the average audience, only to me due to my OCD. The sound is excellent through BUT, the first 15 seconds of the opening, (Popeye in the phone box) is missing, While i dont re record, this would not be a problem for me to do as it the view during the phone call is from the guys back so no lip syncing necessary.
Defiantly one of the best episodes and very pleased that this one is on low fade stock. We did have three episodes,(down to you Brother and Ringer) but these were sold on due to fade.
The story line,
Informant Popeye is abducted by villain Maynard whilst staking out small-time crook Frankie Little after a jewel theft. Regan pulls Little but agrees to drop charges if Little will go ahead as planned, acting as Maynard's driver on an upcoming robbery. However, all Little is able to phone in to Regan on the eve of the heist is "Old Readies". Regan must locate where the crime will take place before it is too late for Popeye.
