A second Elmo 16CL

#1 by Eivind Mork , Wed Jun 17, 2020 10:12 pm

After having trouble with my Elmo 16CL for a year, I finally got it fixed last weekend (see a separate thread about this). But I decided to get a second one. Then I will have two in case one fails and I need time to get it fixed. As long as both are working, I will have one at the cabin (where most films are viewed), and one at home.

Yesterday the new one came shipped from Germany. It seems to be in a very good condition, and nothing got broken in transport. The front leg is damaged (as reported before I bought it), but I will either buy a new one, or make a fix somehow. It can be used as it is now, but it is a bit flimsy. I wanted the same model as my lenses can be used on both projectors. I am very happy to have got this second one.

Very nice too.
The way i got into 16mm makes me wonder why i never bought the Elmos bearing in mind my 8mm has always been Elmos until i added the Bauer recently. I remember at collage the Elmo 16mm was so quite.i wonder if it was this model.

Looks a nice one Eivind,I have one in my collection had to renew the rollers though. As Tom says they are a quiet machine, and I’m sure these have a compartment with a selection of spare fuses.
I must admit I don’t use mine much once in a blue moon, but nevertheless a nice machine to have.

For some reason, I have 5 16CLs, 2 Kodak CT-1000s, a TRV-16G, and a TRV-16. Why? I'm not really sure. I'm sure you can't own just one...

Nice one Eivind, I love the Elmo's, I have a CL and have just agreed to buy an AL, quite a modern one (if there is such a thing with vintage projectors) but not picking it up till November. Thanks to our good friend Paul Barker I already have 2 lenses that will fit this machine. Keep an eye out on ebay Eiving for a spare foot for yours, they will pop up now and again, if I ever see one I'll give you a shout.

Del,

The 16-AL is really nice and has some neat features--I really like the auto shut-off at the end of a film The only little drawback in my mind, is not being able to easily remove a film partway through. I picked up a nice 16-AL a few years back at a historic movie theater in Red Wing, MN that was getting rid of a bunch of equipment. Apparently they used the 16mm projector for kid's birthday party film showings there. Still have it but using Eiki's at the moment. A nice addition to your projector collection...

I did get a new foot for the Elmo. I bought it on eBay from the US :-) I like the ease of use of the 16CL.
