I agree.
It wasn't long ago that they were off for a few days.

It was like this around 1am UTC too, so it has been like this for around 12 hours, I guess. I would assume they are aware of the problem by now and working on it.

It's 1142 BST here at the moment.
Yesterday at 0830 BST it was not available.
That's over 24 hours.
Bad show.

It could be any sort of problems they are dealing with. And as they have no way to communicate this as the server is down, we simply have to wait. I am sure they are working hard to get things up again as soon as possible! As someone working with servers on my day job, I can say that no matter how much the users are not happy with the server being down, I am confident the owners/maintainers are even more unhappy with the situation.

Hello,
Doug Meltzer indicated the film tech forum is down due to a series of unsuccessful hacking attempts. He expects it will be back within 24 hours...Sadly, these types of things soon become out of ones control, and they do take time to debug and restore things there. So best if we try and be patient...thanks everyone...

In these situations we are all best served when they take their time to investigate thoroughly. So we just have to wait patiently. It is a sad part of maintaining servers. At most of the servers I maintain I see some sort of automated malicious activity scanning for vulnerabilities every single day.

Brad Miller has now replied:-
It was a hacker attack on the server. Most likely some computer-savvy kids bored to tears in quarantine trying to get some giggles.
No data or anything was lost, just a brief outage of being able to connect.

I am very glad to see the Film-Tech forum is back and available...I enjoy their site greatly and the more the merrier in my mind. Their is no competition between our forum and theirs--we support each other 100%....Most of us have unique passwords for the various forums and web sites we visit--which is a good precaution for security.
However, if any of us use the same password for multiple sites it would probably be a prudent idea to change it up given this recent hacking attempt--although data has not been compromised to anyones awareness at this point. I have recently started using LastPass (it is free for the basic version) to help manage my many different passwords. Our good friend Eivind who supports many servers in Norway as part of his profession suggested LastPass to me. And that helps me avoid using the same password for more than one web site....anyway, might be worth looking at to assist you in the arduous task of keeping track of multiple usernames and passwords....Does anyone else use these types of apps like LastPass for these purposes? We are always open to suggestions for making online life easier!
