I Did NOT Expect this. A wee dissapointed

#1 by Tom Photiou , Thu Jun 14, 2018 10:25 pm

Well, you remember a couple days ago i started the thread for the Country and Western spectacular Vol 1 i got from ebay?
Well, it arrived,
No problem with the print, great ebay seller, very good product, but read this, Steve Osborn kindly contacted mt to say he knows of around 120 episodes of this series, he has 8, so tonight i emailed for his opinion, here is my confusion,

Tonight I checked this reel, I also checked our existing Vol 2. This is what I found.
The one I just received, Country and western Vol 1, printed on the leader, labelled on the original box, (not stuck on, but printed on) EVEN the title on the film during the intro is C & W (VOL 1),
I viewed it and the content is identical to my Vol 2. The quality is excellent, the colour and sound both very good.
I then checked my existing Vol 2, the original leader states Vol 2, (printed into the leader), the opening title on the film itself is C & W Vol 2
Now I am worried about buying any more if they should appear in case there are other duplicates. I have never seen this before.
What do you think?
Anyway, here are the screenshots, its still good fun but i dont need two copies thats for sure. BUT, as stated, the seller was A1, the print is very good, as it happens, he had a Vol 2 but as i already had it i didn't bid. This is not the wrong one in the box, nor is there anything to suggest it, the leaders and titles on actual film itself is plain to see. I will pop up an image from Vol 2 later in the thread. These screenshots dont do it any justice as the colours are really something with all the costumes.

I've never come across that before Tom. It means it's very risky buying future parts.

Thats what im thinking Robert. I would like to somehow find a listing somewhere for these 400 footers. I think its odd how one of the big boy distributors of super 8, released so many of this series yet ive not been able to tap into any information from any of our old cine magazines. i wonder if they were either only released in the states or simply not that popular at the time.

It is so weird Eivind,
I have to say, there must be people reading this who must think, thats not possible if the film itself is titled Vol 1 and Vol 2,.During next week, just to show you, i will try my best to do a short video and pop it onto you tube for a week only to show you what i mean. It is the most weird thing ever for me as a collector. Two films from a TV series, both with a different title, all be simply Vol 1 and Vol 2, but the content is identical.

Weird! I Guess that the lab have managed to mix up the negatives and used the same negative With two different leaders. Never heard about anything like this.

I should screen my vol 2 and see if the content is different from what your vol 1 and 2 are. I'll get back to you on that.

I screened my vol 2 and it's totally different from the screenshots you show for vol 1 so I think what you have there as vol 1 is in fact vol 1 your vol 2 is actually another vol 1. I took some screenshots and I will post them later.

Hello Tom! Have you ever screened your Vol 2? I recently got a copy of Vol 1 on eBay. I screened it and it is the same content as your Vol 1 that is in the first post of this thread. So, my Vol 1 and Vol 2 are different. Let us know if your Vol 2 is the same as mine or if you have two Vol 1's.

Thanks Bill, i got there in the end, luckily i was able to re sell my duplicate, it actually went for a fiver more than i paid so a good result. More cash to the film fund.
I do like these two 400ft reels. Some real old and rare items in there. I think the quality of these two reels, given the age of the material, (not to mention the age these 8mm prints must be), is really first class. Very sharp image throughout and excellent sound. As you know these were released by Columbia at a time when the American 400ft prints were generally much more superior in quality to much of the dodgy stuff that was coming out over here until the very late 70s and 80s.
