The Magazine,

#1 by Tom Photiou , Sun Aug 30, 2015 2:51 pm

First off, apologies for starting new thread on this one, but i just wanted to see how much interest it generates. Its very important to Phil at CHC but also subscribers. Us!
This is what i put on a little earlier, please go to the end if you already seen it,

"Now this is a topic i like.
On the other forum i have often asked people on Phil's behalf to do something as he has told me himself if he doesn't get help from the collectors the magazine will not be able to continue.
I use to do a fair bit for the old magazine from Derann and now i try hard to contribute to this one.
One topic that i feel Phil would very much like is the basic servicing and repairs of our Projectors.
On all the Forums there are many talented people, some have even been repairing projectors for years, so in answer to the question, i dont know how many people do subscribe but im sure its a fair few, and i for one would very much enjoy reading full reviews of different machines but even better, how to maintain them with tips on servicing/lubricating or even modifying them.
We all spend time on our computers reading and contributing to the forum/s so how about spending around 15/20 per evening for a short time and put together something? Just a few minutes per night will add up to some great items for the mag".

Hugh already mentioned a few kind words about my previous repair item, these were generally Elmo related, as already mentioned in another thread there are very few projector service/repair specialists around these days. This is now a great opportunity for some of us to share servicing in easy English language on other machines as well as Elmo's, i am obviously thinking of all the Bauer range, Eumig, Fumeo, Beaulie B&H to name a few.
With the aid of our PC's and easy to upload images it has never been so easy to do a piece for Phil. We could even talk among ourselves on here to see who will do what article and on what so as we dont repeat ourselves. Remember, a lot of readers of the mag do not have a PC so they are the ones who will benefit and it will also stop the magazine itself from having to repeat items that have been talked about many times over. You can only talk about days gone by so many times.

Hi Tom ... Yes we will all have to share our "make do" and "diy" projector repair skills when our repair guys depart for projector heaven or simply retire.

I do wish I was capable of writing stuff, but it's just not in me. That's why I don't do reviews, just can't write something I'd feel comfortable with

Vidar, no one is expecting a Shakespearean sonnet, but a page of perhaps what's happening in your own neck of the woods, such
as your film club, together with a few snaps of your screenings. A short introduction and some pictures, I'm sure that would be made
welcome, plus it shows that like minded folk are still watching film.

Vidar, if you wanted to put a little bit together roughly and e mail it to me with any pictures i will gladley do it for you. It will also be your piece and not mine.
I have done this before and titled it as a work by ???? presented by me.
I could draft it up, let you see it and if you like it i will present it to Phil.

I will try, but it will take a little time. Need to think about what to write about ... Nobody would be interested in lifestories I suppose.

I'll give it a try. Thanks for the pressure ;-)

Vidar,

I get the Norwegian film mag sent to me, and I know film is big in your country, why not write an article on the current Norwegian (Scandavian) scene. Do a lot of the collectors in Norway speak English, (I would suspect the majority of 8mm collectors do), I know there's quite a bit of sub-titled 16mm prints about out there. Anyway perhaps I've given you an idea, at least!
