RE: Why do people *try* to sell films with VS?

I saw no less than 2 new listings today for films with a "mild" vinegar smell. One is a fairly common Laurel and Hardy 16mm short with a BIN of $80. I've seen this particular title go for less than that with no vinegar smell at all. The other is the 3 Stooges first short for Columbia with a BIN of $105. Seller does not appear to be a collector since he sells a little of everything.

I'm not sure why this annoys me so much, but it just does. I have to keep looking at these listings since they show up in my saved searches for films I'm interested in.

I think it would be more annoying if the sellers didn't mention it, I think as long as they are honest and state the VS then it is a fair sale, all be it, I myself would not buy.

I guess what annoys me is the fact that the sellers think a VS print is worth anything at all, which it clearly is not.

This actually happened on a recent film purchase, I saw advertised on ebay, pt2 of Seven Nights in Japan and the colour looked lovely, it was one to complete a feature and to be fair cheap, I won the reel and it was quickly sent, I opened it after it sitting for a couple of days and got a feint wiff of vinegar, I decided to contact the seller and they seemed surprised but did say that I could return it, I left it that I'll clean the plastic can and check it again in a couple of days, sure enough once again I got a vinegar wiff on opening the can, it's at the very early stages but will only get worse, I did get a refund and the film is now in the dustbin, Mark

Sadly, the only place for a print with VS.

Wenn Sie hier auf Links zu eBay klicken und einen Kauf tätigen, kann dies dazu führen, dass diese Website eine Provision erhält.

Some idiot listed a film with VS:

And some numbskull actually bought it for $127. And..it got 24 bids from various people off their rockers.
You can't make this stuff up!

BTW, why does the link go to "www.ebay.de"???

Another head scratcher:

Note about all his listings:

"**PLEASE READ CAREFULLY PRIOR TO BIDDING!** All the film reels I have listed are sold AS-IS. They are UNTESTED (though partly INSPECTED) and may have varying degrees of vinegar syndrome and/or tinting (if color Eastman film)."

Look at his sold items list -- many films with VS have sold!

What the heck am I missing???????
