Does anyone think this will be paid for?

Dr Finlay's casebook was a television drama series produced and broadcast by the BBC from 1962 until 1971. It was one of my Mums favourite TV programmes. A few years ago i bought her the first two series on DVD. I did wonder if this would ever appear on 16mm, (not that i would buy it on 16), and recently, a copy of an episode has turned up on ebay.

What i didn't expect was the prices it would climb to. It was good but no where this good. So i wonder if this is genuine biding or two people bidding purely to win with no intentions of paying. IF, it does sell and get paid for, all i can say is well done that seller.

What i would be confused about if i were bidding is that the episode titled Unfit to marry, shown in the listing appears to be series 10 as per the leader, but this episode was from series 6. As these were only 1 hour episodes, so it is correctly on 1 x 2000ft spool, the image shows two reels with the same title on both.

Maybe the bidders need this to complete their collection of the series? Still, that's money that could be spent on essentials in my eyes.

I have Dr Finlay in "Carver Tom". It is on an overflowing orange Cecolite 1600ft spool. As such, it probably runs for about 50 minutes.
The film shown does seem to have some commercials included.
It is only one spool, I think Tom is mistaking the black can to be a second reel.

Maurice, im just making sure everyone's awake Yes, silly mistake on my behalf. Must agree with Gwyn though, i could think of better titles to spend that much on, crazy hobby though. As you said, if cash is no problem, then why not?

Good price for it, hopefully it's a legit purchase and it all goes well for the seller, its not something I would buy but then again I've paid more than I should for titles,Mark

There may also be another explanation, I'm wondering if this is a "lost" episode, like some of the early Doctor Who's that were wiped over the years, could this be the BBC buying it back, you never know, as videotape in the 1960's was enormously expensive, and after a while they were wiped and re-used and only the 16mm telecine prints survived, that's how many of the rare Doctor Who's have been found (mostly in African countries, amazingly!).

Thats a good point Barry. Reading about this series on wiki there are quite a number of episodes that were lost, it may also explain why the adverts are still on there.

"Unfit To Marry" was episode number 136 shown on 24 December 1967 and is reported as "missing".

A good friend of mine has looked into this, as i understand it, this episode is missing as the radio show with the same title, not the broadcast version which is on the DVD.
Also, again, as pointed out to me, is this a BBC version? The BBC dont have adverts, but it was a BBC show, so perhaps this print is from another channel after all, the BBC also sold there shows around the world.

And the most recent update i have recieved, is that the wording in wiki is likely an error, (wouldn't be the first time), as this link below to the Kaleidescope TV Brain archive states the TV show is in their archives, just the radio version is lost

Maurice, that is a very rare print. Do you know who released that or was it an ex hire copy?

Tom
It came many years ago with other standard 8 films and a standard 8 Eumig Mark M.
It is in a white box, the leader is clear until the standard countdown leader. Therefore, no indication of its origin.

Tom,

I've had the "Dad's Army" episode a couple of times, I've got a feeling it came from either Mountain or Heritage Films in the early 1970's. What I remember it's a very good print, I've never seen a super 8 print though.
