Need to fix the belt on my Fumeo 9119

#1 by David Skillern , Mon Apr 18, 2022 11:08 am

Hi All,

It’s good to be back - I’m hoping for some advice - I was screening a print the other day on my Fumeo and the metal belt came off - now I’ve fixed that before - no problem- but my problem now is that as I was taking the back off the projector, I realised that one of the screws underneath the rear arm which is flush to the body has no thread left and at the moment I can’t undo it and take the back off. Any suggestions as how I can sort this out ??? As I’ve only just started using my Fumeo again and this is a real issue.

Thanks Everyone.

Dave

David, I too have this machine, and the screw on mine is slightly proud of the machine body, now I was wondering if you can get any purchase on the screw to make a small groove that a small screwdriver might give you enough of a turn to get the screw out so you could attach pliers, only a thought.
Secondly I have a screw remover bit for a power drill as per photo I think it came from Screwfix maybe a last resort.

Hi David, so it looks like you have lost the head off the countersunk screw, am i correct in that assumption ?. Its an allen key in the countersunk head, you could just drill the last bit of the head off to release the panel its holding, or if there is enough room between the two parts can you slide a screw driver between the two, which will separate them enough to get a small mini hacksaw blade to saw the screw through to release it. The company use this idea across the whole range of projectors, to fix the panels, but you need to have a small allen key set around at all times, where as most of the other companies use philips or posidrive screw heads, i have a 9131 machine and its the same, but the allen key is 3mm !!!!!, if you they are seized, you will chew the allen key end or the head itself, not a great idea.

Hi Paul ,

You are correct in that assumption - however I don’t feel comfortable in using a mini hacksaw on the machine - I might just do more damage - I will try an Allen key or alternatively as Gwyn suggested pay a visit to screw fix to get a screw remover bit for a drill - I’ll keep you posted

Hi David, It sounds a bit crude, but if you have removed all the other screws it allows you to move the panel in that corner away enough to slide a very thin mini hacksaw blade between the two surfaces so you can saw through the remaining thread stuck in the main body of the machine. I have used those screw removal tools, and unless you get it in the first go you end up tearing the remaining metal away, in which case you may as well use a normal drill bit, really depends on how stuck the thread is, drilling the existing head off would be in my opinion the best option...........

I agree with Paul, drilling it out will be your best bet,you may be able to get a pair of grips to get the remaining thread out then,Mark

Hi Mark,

Got the back off - but could you advise me on the re fitting of the rear metal belt - it’s been years since I had to do it and quite frankly looking at the back off the Fumeo - I can’t remember how to re attach - any help would be greatly appreciated.
