16mm projector wanted

#1 by Barry Attwood ( deleted ) , Sat May 30, 2020 10:48 am

Now I've got my new film storage unit nearly up and running I'm tentaivly going back into selling 16mm films, but I've got a bit of a problem, I've 2 16mm projectors, a nice B&H which has got a cracked worm gear, so no go there for the moment, an Eiki/Elf which works OK except I can't get any sound out of it, so again another one for the back burner, so I need a good working reasonably priced, sound 16mm projector, I'm very wary of B&H's now because of the infamous wormgears, so a nice working Elf/Eiki would be the way to go, as I have very limited experience with any other 16mm projector makes. So if anyone has a decent projector for sale, and can send it to me via courier, please send me info on model, condition, price inc. post, and I'll get back to you. You can email me at indi8films@aol.com or send a PM. I look forward to hearing from you soon!

Well I've bitten the bullet and bought a B&H Slotloader, everything I'm assured is OK, inc. that wormgear that's always the problem with these machines, so now I'll be able to check out some of the 16mm I've got in stock.

A bit late, but I just found this: https://shop.van-eck.net/PP-0051.html
Van Eck makes new worm gears for some models. Which model of B&H do you have?

Kevin Brown has original B&H worm gears, animated and non-animated.

I've actually got a new B&H wormgear, but the trouble is that they reside right in the heart of the machine, and if you don't know what you're doing, it can quickly end in a mess, so now I've got the new machine coming, when I've got the time I might have a go myself, but that's for later now!

Barry
Not an easy job and it requires special tools, so good luck with that and let us know how you get on. Personally I would let Kevin Brown do the job. He comes highly recommended.

I agree.
Note that there are two different Bell & Howell worms.
One for animation models, and one for the non animation models. I believe that the animation one can be used in a non animation model, but, of course, there will be no still or animation action.

Yes I might eventually go to Kevin Brown, but as I've only got a small amount of 16mm in stock at the moment, I've roughly saved about £100 off the price and postage to Kevin, so perhaps one for the future.
