Wonder if there is a lab defect on this. Del, do you remember picture “waving”? It moves up and down and sideways, can’t remember if my other print did this. Will check later

It was fine for me Vidar, I didn't notice anything unusual when I watched it at Christmas.

Just finished now, seems it is only reel 3 (end of first 800’ and little into second 800’). After that it seem steady. Will see if my reel 3 is the same as of my second print

Mine came on 5x400ft reels also have the trailer which had over recorded sound that caused distortion. Its a great film and not just for Christmas.

I still love the smell of film in the morning

Me too but no trailer. It does have movement on my own but on the last reel only

i also have the full feature from 5 x 400 reels, its a good un but wouldn't mind a good 16mm print.
The super 8 print is steady throughout.

When I ordered my copy of Tom Brown's Schooldays from DCR films, I was told that Rank Labs could just about get one more print out of the negative, and there was a slight fault; some movement lasting only a few seconds. I decided to go ahead with the order. I wonder if something similar happened with the prints that you have, that they were nearing the end of their run.

I did see a 16mm print on Ebay not long back and it wasn't expensive; I decided not to go for it as I had the Super 8 version.

It is a difficult one to ascertain in the case of my own print Robert as it was mounted to one of those ridiculously heavy TC 1600ft so called "Supaspools" when it arrived with me, so as it gets worse towards the end and the nearer it gets the end, the worse it gets,.. I just figured it was all down to the spool it had been placed on and perhaps a little strain to the sprockets maybe?

It plays ok but does have a lot of movement in the picture towards the end , as said.

That's a shame Andrew. It's a wonderful film, very moving at times.

I must admit, I only watched it at Christmas and didn't notice anything bad, it played ok on my GS.

I like that Tom thanks. I might use it to design some new cover art for my own print of this film.

Hire fee £5, purchase price £49 Vidar plus £1 for postage and packaging.
Those were the days! 😁😁

So to buy, 490 for all ten reels you mean? 5 was per Reel, right?

£49 was for the feature back then Vidar. Not the price per reel. B/W films were always cheaper let's not forget and this advert is now very very old!
It would have originally been distributed as a 5x400ft release hence the term 10 reels. A reel of film as a unit description was considered to be 200ft.

Thats it Andrew, £49 for the complete film.
Mind you, you can buy 16mm features for that, and good ones to, in fact, some super 8 features are not that much more expensive. They are out there.

Let me know when you find them though
