16mm

Well guys, it's finally happened, I have ventured into the dark side, yes I now have a 16mm projector. It's not the TQ111 I was going for as when I got to the guys house and had another look at it and then looked at his Elmo 16-CL, the TQ111 looked like a bag of spanners, needless to say I bought the 16-CL, it is so quiet, probably even quieter than the GS, also picked up quite a few films too, a lot of them will be going though, lots of documentaries and specialist stuff, will put a list together at some point soon.

Sounds great Del!

I once asked a couple of collectors quite a number of years ago now, if they could recommend to me a quiet running 16mm machine, one which back then could easily be found in this country, and not one of them could recommend me one.

I was told inherently, they are all noisy given the increased size and speed of all of the mechanisms, so your story is not only inspirational and enlightening to me Del, it also surprises me greatly!

Anyhow well done fella and welcome to the dark side!

How are you finding slot loading btw?

I am enjoying 16mm a lot more than i thought i would but have to add its too easy to let the buying run away with you. Good though

Great stuff and love your choice, the slot loading is brilliant. Got two Elmo 16-CLs too, one optical only. Gave away the Bauers I had, just space wasters, as I didn’t like them much.

Well done Del; you will find now that some titles that you have always wanted will possibly come your way. Look forward to reading your experience in 16mm.
On the subject of noise, the Eumig 810D is noisy in just standby mode. I've never had the two side by side to compare, but the noise of my 16mm projector has never been a problem for me.

Thanks guys, the slot load is easy compared to the Fumeo, it's optical only so no sound heads to negotiate. It takes seconds to load, but I was just simply amazed how quiet this was and it is the closest 16mm I have ever seen that looks like a Super 8mm projector. Will get it all looked at over the weekend, got my treasured Lady Vanishes, Cybill Shepherd and that dress , also got Tom Thumb so my super 8mm print is now for sale, I'm just about to post it.

I'd like that print if you can wait a few weeks Del?

The slot loading and the projector as a whole sounds like a dream machine Del!

Dell, lets get one thing sorted, no competing against each other for titles
Its funny isn't it, only a year ago i was contemplating selling all 16mm that we had concentrate on 8, had i have done that i may have bought a few more titles but as it happens the review section here tells you what we have managed. In fact, if Dances with Wolves was the only 16mm film i had it would have been worth sticking with it.
The only problem if your not careful is the space.

I can't see me getting masses Tom, it takes up too much room, managed to get Oliver and South Pacific too, not too sure what the colour is like on those two though.

Hahaha nice one Tom and thank you Robert, I've a feeling Oliver might be a bit on the warm side, but I'll use the filters if it is, I do still have the ones Hugh sent me, seems a rare one to get so probably worth keeping, as is South Pacific, I believe that has better colour with slight fade, this is from the seller.

"Warm" is always fine Del. "Toasted" is what causes many concern.

I think you will still enjoy it immensely Del; after a while you get used to the colour, and you are really concentrating on what is happening on screen.
