Barry's Pressys

#1 by Tom Photiou , Tue Jul 04, 2017 10:18 pm

Today i recieved my competition win from Barry @ Indi 8.
I had no idea what Barry's choices were but i will say "Barry, you me well", Two great choices and a huge Thank you to you.
Who would have thought that we could still win brand new sealed prints of Super 8 cine films in 2017????? Great stuff!!!!!
I recieved a 400ft Universal print of The Don is Dead starring the brilliant Antony Quinn,
And a 200ft Disney extract from the Fox and The Hound.

While i have heard of both of these films i have never seen either in any format so both were a great surprise.

The don is dead, is a 1973 crime drama film directed by Richard Fleischer. It stars Anthony Quinn. After his mistress is savagely beaten up a Mafia leader goes after the killer with a bloody vengeance. Soon after the hunt begins, a gang war ensues. This a very good mobster movie with plenty of action and and a very good print. It was a throw back to days gone by receiving two unopened sealed prints.

Have i told anyone i'm after Die Hard?

And from the Fox and the hound, ( love to see the full Derann feature of this, looks great and this extract makes you want more.

Many thanks again Barry.

Great stuff to both examples from Barry there Tom!

The Fox and Hound extract you have received there I got not too long back off e bay.
Unbeknownst to me at that time, it was our friend Del who was selling it! 😊

Anyhow I won it and its a great little extract from the feature and while the feature itself is now becoming extremely hard to find, it is another of my absolute favourites from the Derann / Disney factory and an absolute charming family film that requires nothing less than heart made of stone not to enjoy every single aspect of this great storyline and fabulous animation once again from the infamous studios.

Should you ever find a decent unscathed copy, grab it with both hands Tom, would be my advice.

Michael, the Derann Super 8mm release of this film has fabulous colour still if you should ever find one. ( Agfa 2S stock printed in the 90's)

Tom,

i bought the Universal 8 copy of The Don is Dead from Nigel Higgins in Blackpool last November and I still haven't viewed it yet along with my full length copy of The Smallest Show on Earth - thank goodness ive nearly finished work for the Summer - i've got some major catching up on Super 8mm and 16mm - and the full length print of The Fox and Hound on Super 8mm is superb - as its in my collection.

Happy to report Barry's prize arrived safely on Tuesday. I'm actually away from home at the moment for a few weeks but a friend staying in my place just sent me a snap of the boxart. Can't wait to run it once I return.
