Halogen Bulbs

#1 by Robert Crewdson , Wed Jun 09, 2021 2:33 pm

So the bad news in today's papers is that the Government is to ban the sale of Halogen bulbs from September. This announcement is very short notice, and there is bound to be a lot of stock left after that deadline. Personally, I think it's all rubbish about saving the planet. I think more damage is being done by high pollution countries, such as Japan. Factory chimneys belching out smoke containing chemicals that that return to earth as acid raid. I have just ordered 10 ELC bulbs for my B&H 16mm projector, to go with the 5 spares I already have, so should be more than enough for my lifetime, and 8 bulbs for my Eumig Super 8, as this doesn't get much use now.
I can recommend this company, their prices are much lower than I have found elsewhere; they despatch very promptly, and orders over £25 are post free. https://www.lightbulbs2u.com/product/osr...KAaAu6UEALw_wcB

Robert, i agree 100%, its all bollocks. What the hell difference is it going to make to the world enviroment banning poxy halogen bulbs? Did you see that ship that sank after catching fire off Sri-Laka? Thats put more crap into the ocean causing more enviromental damage to the world than all the halogan bulbs ever will. Just a bunch of do gooers doing the goody two shoes crap to score points with the planets little greenies to score votes.
What about all the trash that jets aircrafts put out? Will they ban all flights? Not a chance.
I belive the sockets they fit into will also be banned. Clowns!

Totally agree Tom; aircraft are pumping out a lot of rubbish. The oceans are being damaged. A lot of things are causing damage to the planet, but I don't think light bulbs are one of them, or if they are it's negligable. Reading the article linked to on the other forum, some lamps will escape the ban, but to be on the safe side, it's best to stock up. I had an email about an hour ago to say my order has been completed, and already have a tracking number for DHL. If anyone needs to stock up on Exiter lamps I can post a link that may have what you need at low prices.

Thats a good point. I dont have a spare exciter lamp for my nt 1 or sl2. I assume they are the same. Will have to xheck.
Im surprised there hasnt been ant LED bulbs to replace the common 250w in 16mm projectors and the 100 and 150w in super 8s,among others.

This company has G29 and G40 Exiter lamps at only £2.95 each, plus many obsolete projector bulbs. https://www.rcssales.co.uk/replacement-lamps/projector-lamps

Just found out today that halogen bulbs for photographic use will be exempt from the new ruling. So...no worries getting new ones. Phew.

Apologies if someone else had announced this already.

Yes, definitely a good idea to stock up on bulbs. I think I am good in that department, but what I really need is spare belts.

Hi Tom,

I will look to get a spare set of belts for the Elmo ST-600, ST-1200HD, GS-1200, the Eiki SSL and if possible the Bolex S321 16mm.
I think Steve Osborne has new silicone-based belts for the 1200HD, so I will probably go for one of those.
