Reflections U.S.A. (Precious Images)

#1 by Greg Perry , Sat Jun 20, 2020 2:43 am

This is a montage tribute to film, made by Chuck Workman, and revised in 1996 to include a few newer films--like WFRR. Workman also did "Pieces of Silver"-another fantastic and very repeatable film...

Although the actual title is "Precious Images", the Super 8 print was sold as "Reflections USA". I believe there is also a Reflections UK montage that consists of British films.
Anyway, if you don't have this or Precious Images in your collection it is something you may want to be on the look out for as it is just awesome.

Here are some images (print is pin sharp, and much better than these pics):

This and the other reflections along with pieces of silver are among my favorite shorts. The choice of music used in all three is perfect and the image quality is excellent.

I recognised Mario Lanza in screenshot two; 'The Toast of New Orleans' I think.

I like Tom am now lucky enough to have all three of the aforementioned titles and fabulous they are too, I think Pieces Of Silver is possibly my favourite one out of the three.

Another good one that i bought was the AFI 100 years of movies. Very similar but a bit later in years and shorter. I will dig it out later and review it as its been a few years since i put it up. It's also scope.
Regarding Precious images as per Greg's thread, i am unashamedly going to "borrow" the whole list of films put onto this reel for this thread, i wouldn't normally do this but i think the chap did snag it of the net himself so i dont feel too guilty
I'm sure he will approve as this is a film forum.

#2 - Tom, yes, the background music is just great and really fits the film images being shown as well.

#3 - Robert, that's one I didn't know. Most of the other pics I posted are very obvious as to what films they are from...Not sure about the Gregory Peck pic, or the one with the two blonde women--maybe one is Alice Faye? Not sure...

#4 - Del, the next time you run 'Reflections UK' would you be able to post some pics? I am curious about what films are included...

I hesitated a bit on buying this one as I thought the price was too high. But after watching it I am glad I did..prints don't come up very often for sale. Plus, the repeatability factor helps reduce the per viewing cost amortization...

Thanks for the link Greg, it was very interesting. I recognised quite a lot of films, but less than half. This film included at least three British made films. 'The African Queen' (Humphrey Bogart), Roger Moore in Octopussy. The 007 stage is at Pinewood studios, Buckinghamshire, and one of the films made by Ray Harryhausen after he settled in England.

Here are some screenshots from Reflections UK. Sorry they arnt too great but it moves so fast it is hard to get a sharp image, again, this reel has a great stereo soundtrack matching the images perfectly including the theme from Laurence of Arabia. The last blurry image is from Dont look now. This was a second copy i bought from CHC but until i played it i didnt know it had a re-recorded stereo track, it's a belter too.
