Robert,
Prior to clicking on the VR doodle, I did not even recognize the Google Doodle as being about Melies. This animated homage is nicely done--albeit stylized quite a bit. Seems like a neat way to introduce those who may not be familiar with his work to find out more. At the end of the doodle, there are some additional links to other, more in-depth resources about Melies. I am glad you posted this info.

Saw that earlier today — a tip o’ the hat to Google for recognizing Melies! In this day and age, very nice to see ANY reference to movie history!

Only ever managed to get his 'Trip to the Moon' (1902), one of the most famous films in early movie history, along with 'The Great Train Robbery' (1903).
