Watching the countdown.

Whenever I obtain a 16mm print, if it has the original leaders and tails, then I look on this as a bonus, as many have been replaced. I like to read the information, such as instructions to the engineer on where to start the soundtrack recording for 35 and 70mm, or the sound level for the theatre, and sometimes reading if it's a theatrical or TV print. When it comes to projecting the film, I have always liked to see the information flash on screen, followed by the countdown, 11, 10, 9, and so on. Some people may be just interested in viewing the film. I leave the lamp on to read 'End of XXX part 3', and anything else until the tail has run through and the white light appears on screen. At least I know I am watching a real film; this pleasure, is something that the only digital collectors will never know.
