New Applicants To the Forum

#1 by Andrew Woodcock ( deleted ) , Sat May 06, 2017 11:39 am

We have two applications to our forum that have been hanging in the ether for quite a while now.
These are "Picchu87" and "marvellwynne".

In accordance to our rules here, you need to exchange these Usernames for you real actual names (forename and surname) before we can register you here.

For that matter, our latest new member Dbauer needs to update their details or risk being deleted here for non compliance otherwise.

I think I sent emails to them, no replies

Perhaps I end up in the spam filter? Could you, Andrew, or Eivind give it a try? If no response within a week or two, we can delete, but give them a chance first

I will mail them, but recently I don't bother usually anymore. I never get anything back and when other newcomers do finally get authorization here, seldom do any of the newcomers ever place anything on here or in most cases, even look in here from time to time.

If it were me and I'd already written to these people, to no reply, then they'd simply be deleted now.

Only hint is, I think my messages not always reach the mailboxes. I tend to get one out of three or four replies from Phil at CHC, suppose they go in spamfilter. Give them a final chance, please, then delete. Thanks, hope you don't mind too much

No bother Vidar, I will e-mail them today.

It is after all, what we are here for, it would just be nice to get some active new members here, that's all.

I will write to Dbauer also while doing so.
I have no idea how this person made it on here with this username??
I will give them all a week to reply to me, after that I will delete all three.

The real problem ,dear friends, is that we dont have a prove that the people use a real name to register even on facebook. I have several friends in facebook with names and surnames totally invented and i suspect that we have some people here doing the same and we dont have a way to discover it sadly.

That is true ... However, I just put my faith in people using nicks, by mistake (i.e. from Facebook) are men/women enough to correct this. Easy fix, just send real name and email to any admin and we correct it. Others that won't just have to be unnecessary scared of being known. As you say, Jose, we can't truly know. I know for sure I am Vidar Olavesen (oh, shit, starting to fear I am not now)

You can generally get an inclination from the e mail address in most cases.
If people need to hide behind a veil, are these the types of people you want to be potentially trading with?

You'd thank me in the long run Mat's, believe me!

Anyhow, enough of that caper, to the following new applicants here, once again please read all that has been said countless times previously and amend your Username on your applications to that which reflects your real and actual Forenames and surnames please.

This message applies to the following new applicants who currently are trying to gain membership here using only nicknames and acronyms.
they are...

Onno, Elmo Bauer & Max.

You have two weeks to amend your username details to reflect what is instructed above and to comply with our rules here, otherwise your applications shall be deleted shortly afterwards.

Add Franklyhollywood to the list above now.

Same thing applies to this application as all of the rest.

Please read this thread and our rules of application here.

I doubt it is read at all, very difficult ... Should we allow them in, then give them the option to change to real name? If no reply, delete them again?

At least they would see the posts. Not sure anyone reads the Film Talk in General thread

Yes Vidar, if that is what you prefer. As you say, if they never visit again once joined (as can often be the case), or if they do not respond to a PM requesting the person to change their username to reflect and respect our rules here, then they can always be deleted shortly afterwards.

Maybe we should trial these methods for every new applicant for a time, just to see if this at least leads to better communication levels for all potential new members here?

We await what Eivind makes of the idea Vidar.

The good news at least, is for sure at least one new applicant appears to genuinely be interested in small gauge equipment judging by their chosen username,so hopefully we will get at least one active new sincere member here from this action of yours now Vidar.

This of course, can only ever be a good thing.

Gentlemen
If you are going to change the rules please ensure that we all know what country a member is from.
If members are going to be allowed to use made-up names, and not say where they're from, they can safely hide away and not be known by anyone.
For me, I don't agree to the suggested change.

RE: New Applicants To the Forum

The changes that Vidar suggested Maurice are merely a temporary arrangement just to get them onboard here so they can have a PM sent to them to allow them the opportunity to amend their username details.

We were finding it increasingly difficult to get any kind of feedback or communication from new applicants despite our best efforts by writing to them by e mail and placing notifications on our "open" part of the forum.

If this helps getting people onboard with us all quickly and easily, I think it is a good thing but I am in complete agreement with you Maurice in that EVERYONE here has to demonstrate a willingness to use their actual real forename and surname or else it simply has derogatory implications to all those here offering full sincerity.

They will only be granted sufficient time here to make amends to their username status and we can also see when new users have visited us here but have not responded appropriately by updating their usernames. This will then lead to immediate removal of their membership simply for non compliance with our few, fair and simple rules here.

I hope this explanation now meets with your approval Maurice but ultimately, if not, it is our existing active members wishes that must be observed at all times and things can easily be reverted back at any point in time if that is what the majority of our active members here wish for.

No worries, Maurice, real names only. If the nick names do not get changed within a short time, the account will be deleted. It is just to let them read, as they might not see the messages. One of the four new ones have Already supplied his full name. Thanks for that Matthieu and welcome to the forum
