Optical trailer reel

#1 by Gwyn Morgan , Fri Sep 09, 2016 8:26 pm

Watched this one this afternoon has not seen light of day for years.
A.P.M Trailer reel No1 200 ft reel with optical sound.
Swallows and Amazons with Virginia McKenna, colour turned on this one some what but still watchable .
Tales of Beatrix Potter with dancers from the Royal ballet next nice trailer, but again colour turning.
Last and best of allUp Pompeii with Frankie Howard, this one still contains reasonable colour and is fun to watch.
All in all not bad and each one two to three minutes at least long this is the only optical trailer I have or at least can find to date.
It says PM trailer no 1 on the box edge I wonder if it was the first optical trailer from A.P.M?

Thanks for posting the screenshots! This is actually the first picture I have seen of that Fumeo although I have heard a lot about it. Looks nice! I have never tried optical prints for Super 8 although my projector will play it. Would have been cool to try that one day.

I told you, bring home Memories of Me, a nice, warm, funny and slightly sad film to test. If you like it, buy it, if not, return it :-)

I have already brought home a lot of films from you, Vidar :-) You have given me a lot of great deals! Let me think about it for a day or two. I have just ordered two other films, so I should really slow myself down a bit :-)

Elvind ,go for it ,I think sometimes an optical print is better than a magnetic you don't get any residue from the track.
As I say in previous post I have a 16 mm version which is dam good as far as I am concerned.📽📽

Is the sound good on the trailer?

I have four Pathe Pictorials that Derann released in optical plus a couple of the 200ft airline prints. Powell Films also ventured in to optical sound with one 400ft Rio Grande. Only the initial batch of films and then no more.

I still love the smell of film in the morning

David the sound is excellent it's a shame the picture quality does not match the sound.
I thought I had more 200/400 optical ones but I can't find them at present, but I do have half a dozen full features in optical - airline prints.📽📽

I have around 10 to 15 airline print features. I'd say they vary wildly for sound quality from acceptable to quite frankly, awful on some titles.
Of course the only issue with the optical track, is what you get is what you're stuck with if it isn't brilliant.

I had Rising Damp The Movie on optical and the best you could say about the sound was it was OK but then again I had a full length print of "Chapions" (the story of the jockey Bob Champion) and the sound on that was stunning, the best that I have ever heard on an optical,
It really is swings and roundabouts with optical sound.
Never knew they done trailers in optical, I thought that the optical prints were just for airlines.
