Monster Bash!

#1 by Michael Lattavo , Fri Jul 08, 2016 2:16 pm

Heading to a convention this weekend in Mars, PA called Monster Bash - they screen 16mm films of old monster and sci-fi films from the 40's, 50's, 60's. Screen continuously from 0900 to around 2am the following morning, all weekend long! Saturday night they put on a drive-in movie in the parking lot.

Anyone have anything like this in your neck of the woods?

We do have an old cinema that sometimes show films outdoors only, just wish they did it more often

Sounds like a load of fun Michael! Could you get some pics and share them here later? Unfortunately, there's nothing like that around here. There IS a drive-in left in the neighboring county to me that I think is still in operation. I haven't been to one of those since "E.T." was rereleased back in the 80's!

I wish we had something like that. I don´t know where to find a cinema that screens reel film nowadays. Outdoor screening is a problem i Scandinavia. In the summer, when the climate is OK, we have brigth nights

Sounds great but nothing like that around here. I emailed a few local cinemas/cinema clubs when I first got the projector to see if they projected "the old fashioned way" so I could get some help and advice (before I found the forum) but they said they all do digital now.

My local cinema expressed interest in me putting on screenings in their bar area using the 16mm projector but I've been having a problem finding decent, crowd-pleasing but also somewhat alternative (bit of a trendy cinema) things to show that won't cost the earth to get going. So that's on hold, for now

Back from the show! It was awesome, will definitely go back next year. Had an indoor theatre, and did an outdoor showing Saturday night. Also had lots of costumed characters walking around. Purchased 16mm Whatever Happened to Baby Jane!

Thank you Michael! Been looking forward to your photos of this! Looks like your son had a lot of fun with you! And your 16mm score is terrific! Is that the one with Bette Davis and Joan Crawford? If so, that's a VERY good film!

Yes, it is! I've never seen it, but have heard great things about it - been on my 'want' list for a long time now!

Michael, let us know what you think of your new film after you see it. I know we'd all love to see just a few (or a lot of) screenshots! :-)
