David,Indeed another sad loss best rememdered for his portrayal of Sherlock Holmes on tv but as you rightly say he did have many parts on the BIG screen.

He was regarded as the definitive Sherlock Holmes, indeed to my mind, he was also the definitive King Pelias in "Jason", he
certainly looked the part and could he deliver a line! Many films has he given a touch of class to, if only modern actors had such diction.
A truly sad piece of news. R.I.P. Douglas.
