Across the Sea of Time in Super 8

#1 by Ruben Torrejon , Thu Feb 15, 2024 10:47 pm

An eventual release is still months away but we got a beautiful and complete 35mm master (51 min.) of the classic IMAX movie "Across the Sea of Time". This feature is not available on any format (DVD, Bluray, 4K...) anywhere in the world so this Super 8 print would be the one and only way to enjoy this gem nowadays. We give you the chance to take a glimpse to the First Reel (now ready)... 😉

Well, as far as we know that “DVD” is a bootleg created from an old VHS release. The movie was released on VHS in the 90s just in the US.

Okay, just searched and the dvd popped up. Was mentioned on Blu-ray.com too I think, but not sure it is released

What are these pictures, from film source?

Bluray.com has remarked several times how this movie has dissapeared from circulation since its first VHS release so far. The screen captures are from the 35mm print we get ahold of. That’s a reduction from the original IMAX movie which BTW was also shot in 3D. The 35mm version is 2D only and formated in 1.85:1. Sound is Dolby Stereo SR.

So it will be film to film, not digital source? That is great

For this movie there’s no digital source available, also print is very nice and does not need any digital restoration. It comes with a Dolby intro and ends with the MPAA theatrical rating card.

Sadly we have been unable to locate any foreign dubbings so, for the moment, it will be an english only release. It was the second IMAX narrative feature (after “Wings of Courage”) BTW the score by the late John Barry is amazing and the Dolby Stereo print sounds terrific.
