It seems like Kodak finally releases its new camera:

Is that the camera they talked about a few years ago?

Now let's wait for them to make a projector!

I bet they're expecting for people to shoot film, then have it immediately scanned to digital, and never project it. But what do I know?

Yes, it looks like it mostly targets professionals. Think wedding photographers etc. $5500 is out of reach for most of us. With its alternative recording format too, it is very likely to be targeted to scanning. But I don't care. If it makes the business going and films to be sold, I think it is good for enthusiasts too.

It is indeed the same camera they announced a few years ago, and then went silent. I must say I am surprised to see they are going forward.

Being aimed at the semi-pro and pro market, this is to work with the current Vision 3 negative films as well as the Ektachrome. Most work to be done digitally in post after scanning.

I still have 2 old Super 8 cameras -- one silent and 1 sound -- both were given to me about 30 years ago. I only used the silent one, and the results were more than satisfactory. The last time I used it was almost 30 years ago when you coud still get the film and get it developed at the local chain pharmacy.

I'd have to dig them out, but the silent one was Argus I think, the sound one Canon.

Let's see -- I want a Super 8 camera -- $5,000 for a new one, or a few hundred for a used one. I'll take the used one.

To me that's the same as saying -- let's make a record by recording on wax, produce a 78rpm, then release it on CD or mp3 for all to hear.
I just don't get it.

Project the garsh-darned film as God intended!
