Odd Reels?

#1 by Greg Perry , Mon Jun 19, 2023 6:38 pm

I am wondering how many of us will pick up an odd reel of a title we are looking for with the hope that the other missing reels can be added over time. Of course, this is a big longshot in terms of getting the other missing reels, but in the meantime we at least have a bit of the movie to enjoy. These odd reels are usually quite cheap as well so it isn't a big financial gamble.

A couple years back I found an odd reel #3 of the 1980's film "Reckless" (also with Daryl Hannah). A few weeks back I found reel #2 for this title. The color is great, with some light wear but nothing serious. So, now I just need to stumble across the first reel and I will have the complete film.

Please let me know if you happen to see reel #1 for this---thank you!

Greg, good thread,
It is difficult to find odd reels, especially in good condition. I have to date never had any success in finding any i wanted.

As it stands there are only two I would like to find, Reel 2 of another 48 hours and the final reel of That'll be the day, (both 16mm).

It's good that you found a few you were looking for, but out of curiosity, I rarely see odd reels on lists, so were do you find them?

Hi Tom,

You are right, you rarely see odd reels listed for sale other than eBay, which is where I got the two I mentioned in the post.

Are you looking for a replacement or an upgraded Reel 2 for 48 Hours and final reel "That'll be the Day"?

i bought some odd reels on ebay about 18 months ago, one of the reels was the
last reel of feature 'the last shot you hear' 1969 with hugh marlowe, quite good
b flick. another few months down the line i was able to pick up reel 2 of this
feature, both have excellent colour and no wear. what are the chances of that?
so all i need is reel 1 to complete.best

Hello Clyde,

Great to hear you scored a few of these odd reels!...If the price is right what do we have to lose?

Most likely, the odds are a bit better than the Lotto! :)

Another 48 hours is to replace the one i have as it has emulsion lines for most of the way through.
Thatl be the day pt 3 is to add as i have reels one and two only.
I have considered having it made up, even perhaps an edited version as it is only around 27 minutes of the film thats needed.
As it stands, the first two parts i have do stand well on there own.

I've managed to pick up odd reels over the years to complete a feature or replace a damaged one,I've also got odd reels from films I've bought and they were thrown in at the time, I have thought about listing a few but haven't got round to it, Mark

I bought Kempski's Ben-Hur in stereo and scope, but only reels 1, 2 and 4. Beautiful unmarked print.

If anyone has reels 3, 5, 6, 7 and 8, answers on a postcard please.

I came close once at Chorleywood. Yes! A missing 600ft reel. Nope, turns out it was another reel 2.
