The Living Daylights

Although this print is flat rather than scope, it really doesn't matter, the action is fast paced. This 007 film with Timothy Dalton really shows you everything that's wrong with the last JB movie a year or so ago.
Running for two hours ten minutes, it isn't over long so the pace is much better. and of course it isn't WOKE , good hard hitting action mixed with the right blend of comical one liners to break it up. I still think Timothy Dalton's two Bond movies were among the best of all of them. I do enjoy the Greg Bond films but for me, the last one was so PC it was almost laughable at times, i dread to think how the new ones are going go.
But this viewing is Bond through and through.

The images are out of order, but not to worry

Tom,

That is a cracking print! Haven't seen that title come up very often for sale...a great title for the Photiou film collection.

Its a pretty good print Greg although it does a single green line that comes and goes in the pre title sequence and dissapears in the title opening, but it is only a small single line so not too bad at all. The colours on this print are outstanding as it is an LPP polyester print. It was a shame that Dalton only did the two Bond movies, he was apparently meant to do a third open but he surprised everyone when he said he wouldn't be. His signed contract ran out during the four year row between two studios so during that time when his contract ran out, he was able pull out which he obviously did. Goldeneye would have been his third outing had the studios not have wasted time bickering.

Dalton's portrayal of Bond was darker and more serious. Dalton pushed for renewed emphasis on the gritty realism of Ian Fleming's novels instead of fantasy plots and humour.
Dalton stated in a 1989 interview.
"I think Roger was fine as Bond, but the films had become too much techno-pop and had lost track of their sense of story. I mean, every film seemed to have a villain who had to rule or destroy the world. If you want to believe in the fantasy on screen, then you have to believe in the characters and use them as a stepping-stone to lead you into this fantasy world. That's a demand I made, and Albert Broccoli agreed with me."

Hence why No time to die was ok, it is not how Bond is suppose to be, I hope the next one is better but I dont hold my breath with the woke audiences of today, i wouldn't be surprised if he's drag queen in the new ones (only joking).

Tom,
As said an excellent print, and one being shown to us for pleasure not an extortionist price on ebay.
Dalton was one of the best Bond's after his two outings things did go down hill, yes the films were entertaining but only up to a point ,it seemed each film had to be adapted to
suit the issues of the time.Of course we come right up to date,Skyfall I thought was good but to end up at No Time To Die well maybe it is time and hopefully who ever reincarnates Bond, will get back to the original Fleming vision of Bond as per Connery/Dalton.Heaven forbid if your last paragraph comes true
Enough of the rant.
one of my favorites whatever always worth a view.

I'm glad someone agrees with me that Dalton was one of the best Bonds, probably second only to Connery.

After LICENSE TO KILL, I was disappointed that 6 years passed before the next entry. Up until that point, literally for my entire life, you could count on a new Bond film every 2 years. I was even more disappointed after seeing GOLDENEYE, though! If I had my way, the Brosnan films would be buried somewhere in the Sahara desert.

After I read all the Fleming novels, I realized that the first few Connery films were very close to the original intent of the author, both in the Bond characterization, as well as following the plots fairly closely. While nothing like the novels, perhaps half of the Moore films were pretty decent entertainment nonetheless. FOR YOUR EYE ONLY is probably the closest to Fleming among the Moore films.

Dalton was spot on as Bond as conceived by Fleming. I particularly liked LICENSE TO KILL, since it tooks some plot points from Fleming. I haven't seen it in awhile, but I remember the whole business with the shark was out of the novel LIVE AND LET DIE.

Again, if I had my way, I would go back to the source and start making the films very close to the novels. Off the top of my head, only DR. NO, FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE, GOLDFINGER, THUNDERBALL, and ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE (OHMSS) were fairly faithful to the novels. I was delighted when they made the Craig CASINO ROYALE, but I was a bit disappointed in the result. Their hearts were in the right place, though.

Regarding OHMSS, I think this was one of the all-time best Bond movies. George Lazenby did a great job, and it would have been great for him to reprise his role. They got the order wrong, though. This should have come before YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE, as in the release order of the novels. I believe at the end of THUNDERBALL it mentions that the next film would indeed be OHMSS. If you have even a passing interest in reading the Fleming novels, I would recommend reading those 2 novels.

I still haven't seen the last Craig movie.

BTW, who released THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS on Super 8? Was it Derann?

As far as I Know the living daylights is only on 8mm as a trailer, possibly the pre title sequence, but not the feature.

The one actor who never made it as Bond because the studio's didn't want to take the risk with the actor due to his drinking and behaviour was Oliver Reed and I really think he would have been a great JB. Such as shame.
