BRER RABBIT extract for $1,000 USD!?!?!?

#1 by Thomas Peters , Fri Feb 03, 2023 8:30 pm

Anyone catch the auction going on now? It's graded and sealed in hard plastic like what they do for comic books and baseball cards.

Films are meant to be watched, not hermetically sealed in plastic.

I saw it listed about a week ago. It didn't sell and was re-listed today.

I bought mine from Derann's used list about 20 years ago. Still has great color. Shipped to the U.S. I probably paid around $20 USD tops, if that much. I bought it with several other Disney cartoons that were issued by Derann. All LPP color (the Derann ones, not sure about BRER RABBIT.) The one sealed in plastic probably has only one color left -- red, lol

Actually, on the auction the sticker says "colour", not "color", so maybe it has good color. Doesn't say "sound" though. The box says "printed in the U.S."; I assume that means the box itself, not where the film was printed, but who knows?

Was this the tar baby excerpt? If it was, I'm sure I saw the same seller trying to list it like this before. There's quite a few comical listings on there at the moment. Two copies of the 400ft version of Rocky horror, both at around £250. You gotta laugh though, poor sods probably think they have an antique, or, they think everyone looking at ebay is a bit simple.
A Shame Uncle Remus didn't make it in the 8mm cut

Here is a link if you want to start bidding.
No mention of sound, so probably a silent film.

Yes, it's TAR BABY. That's the only extract I know of from this film.

Actually, you hear Uncle Remus' voice at the beginning.

Well, they just closed Splash Mountain at Disney World in Florida, so this has to be valuable, right?
I've ridden it many times.

Its says "Demolished & Gone Forever!" but in the video he says they are just renovating it into THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG, which is what I had heard before.

There are a lot of stubborn sellers on eBay. I've seen some films listed for well over a year that still haven't sold.
Since listings are free, there's nothing to lose. I remember when they had a listing fee.
Unfortunately, many (but not all) stubborn sellers are collectors like ourselves, too. I'm wise enough to know that the 50 foot headline edition of HAVE BADGE, WILL CHASE with Abbott and Costello is not worth even $10 USD shipped!

I'd love to be able to sell my extra copies of Laurel and Hardy shorts for $35 plus shipping, but that "ain't gonna happen" except for maybe 2 or 3 of the really rare ones, which I don't have extras of.

It is interesting to see that a Super 8 copy from a British eBay seller has a reasonable price of just over £16 (British pounds.) It is silent and has English subtitles.
The reference number is 284995591946.

Yes, but is it hermetically sealed in plastic and graded, so you can never actually watch it?

I happen to know that this seller actually watches all his films so that he can give full details on his eBay website.

I was just kidding in my last comment, directed at that seller who had his sealed in plastic.

Now it says, "This listing was terminated by the seller because it contained an error."
He also has a Disney BETA tape sealed in plastic with songs from SONG OF THE SOUTH.

Actually it looks like the first listing was an error, since it is still up for $8k!

He's hoping that Barnum was right!

BTW, does anyone know why the link takes you to ebay.de?
