BFCC 2023

#1 by Tom Photiou , Tue Aug 02, 2022 8:07 pm

I thought i would just paste this here from the other channel, I would have thought someone would have already popped on here from the other channel to share it, the more the merrier.

Mark Williams and I are currently looking to resurrect the British Film Collectors Convention in a suitable location within the London Underground network (but outside the Congestion Tax zone) and preferably not too far from it's more recent Ealing base. We are going to need help to do this and it really is going to be a "use it or lose it" project. The hope is that we can ensure it is a not for profit event and set up to thrive for years into the future. To make this a reality we are going to need the help of others so please read on below.

We estimate that a successful BFCC can be put on in the fabulous Chorleywood Memorial Hall for around £750 (cost of the hall, insurance etc.) and if we can therefore get 100 people through the door at £5 per head plus at least 10 dealers tables at £25 each we will cover those costs entirely. We are looking to assemble a group of at least ten film enthusiasts to make this happen. Ten of us putting in just £50 would make the financing easy and then at the end of convention day it is expected that everyone would be refunded in full; but if there were any losses they would surely be small. So if you're like us and really would like to see an ambitious BFCC return then please let Mark or I know so that we can quickly get an impression of whether or not this venture is viable.

Keith Wilton is not currently in the best of health but we hope that he will be recovered enough to join us as master of ceremonies next April, but without the stress of being the sole organizer of years gone by. We expect to get the 24 foot wide 'Scope screen there but if this does not prove possible initially then the hall has a motorized, drop down screen that I estimated to be 16 feet wide which this will be a good compromise if necessary.

To see the Chorleywood Memorial Hall have a look at this video but bear in mind that it did seem quite a bit more spacious inside than it appears within the video:

That's great news, I've been to the hall and it would make a good venue, not as big as the other BFCCs but would hold the event OK. The BFCC was always the best cine UK meeting when Keith was in charge so hope it does go ahead and is successful, I'd be in to help out and also have a stall, Mark

Chorley Wood station is on the London underground Metropolitan line. Accessible from many central London stations.

Even I can get their, as my local train terminates at Liverpool Street then onto the Metropolitan line to Chorley Wood Underground Station, I'll be their somehow, I don't drive much now as I've got a bad knee, but sitting on a train, that's doable!

Is Phil's CHC persuadable? That would be a huge draw.

Hope its nothing like Blackpool Stuart if he does attend, overpriced unchecked films with an auction on top, it really isn't a plus these days, Mark

I would welcome all dealers and feel if both Barry and Phil had tables that would make quite a stock list.

I'd happily throw £50 in to the pot to help make it happen
