"FOLLOW THE BOYS" (Univ. 1944)

#1 by Rick S. Newman , Sat Jun 25, 2022 5:49 pm

Hello All,

In an attempt to have made a 16mm print of Universal's 1944 "Follow The Boys" I have been most unsuccessful in my efforts to acquire decent source material. While the film was released in the U.S.A. some years back on VHS the copy I have is defective as is evidenced by several video dropouts. Most curiously it has not been released in region 1 NTSC format but apparently only in a region 2 PAL version available to you folks in Europe. Should I elect to acquire the version available to you I'll have to hope to find a multi region DVD player assuming there exists such a thing.
I'm wondering whether anyone might have this item and if possible can upload it via a method which will enable me to download it here in the states. I'll thus be able to have it printed on 16mm stock and ultimately delete it from my "most sought after" list. I'll likewise be willing to incur reasonable costs for your time and efforts. If you are in a position to help me in this endeavor I'd be most appreciative. You may contact me directly at "16mmrsn@gmail.com".

Sincere thanks.
Rick

Hello Tom,

I attempted more than a month ago to acquire the DVD from the source you've indicated though to no avail. Payment was sent immediately and though several promises by the seller to ship were made it never happened which resulted in my being granted a refund by PayPal. This seller's negatives far outweigh the few positives as is evidenced by so much of the feedback they've received. I knew this prior to ordering but thought I'd take a chance given my desire for the item.
In any event Tom I truly thank you for your input.

Rick

This one is very pricey for a DVD but at least it is a proper company selling it, namely, Amazon

The first fellow in Germany will not ship to the U.S.A. though possibly just as well as it wouldn't come as a shock to discover that it's either dubbed or subtitled in German.

The second option is "currently unavailable".

In any case they are both PAL formatted region 2 DVDs which I'm certain won't play on my region 1 NTSC equipment.
Nevertheless Tom thanks again.

Rick

I understand that nero vision express can convert it from pal to ntsc, you might be able to download a trail version which would give you enough time to learn how to convert for one film at least, if it was just a conversion the other way around then dvd shrink is the what i use, never fails, and its results are astounding, how it does with such a small file is mind boggling.....

Very interesting as well as informative. I'll wait until the disc arrives after which I'll check into both Nero Vision Express and DVD Shrink. Thanks for your input and help...much appreciated.

Not wishing to belabor the issue but as coincidence will have it my quest for an NTSC/Region 1 DVD of this item has suddenly ceased. Shortly after initiating this thread earlier today I received via mail the previously ordered disc of this subject which I had believed would never arrive due to the seller's unorthodox method of doing business. So convinced was I that I'd never see this DVD and a second one ordered that I initiated a claim with PayPal who subsequently refunded my money. Now of course I'll again contact PayPal to reverse my refund and ensure the seller is paid.
I'd like to thank both members who earlier today gave so graciously of their time by way of suggestions as to possible options for me insofar as getting a playable disc.

Regards to all.
Rick
