Elvis Super 8 print: Viva Las Vegas

There is an ebay listing for a Super 8 print of "Viva Las Vegas": Werbung: https://www.ebay.com/itm/134150044363

I am wondering if this seems like it would be the entire ABRIDGED version. The ebay listing indicates 1 x 600 and 1 x400 ft. reels, or 1,000 ft.
But on Eivind's Super 8 database, it indicates the abridged version is 3 x 400, or 1200 ft.

Is the print itself, closer to 1,000 than 1,200 ft?

Thanks for any light you can shed on Elvis and Ann-Margret here..

Greg I have the Derann release and it's on a 1200ft reel, however I have just checked and its not full and looks to be more 1000ft so it could well be the whole abridged feature, I also have the UFA release on 3x400 reels and these aren't full either but the Derann release is on thinner stock, Mark

Derann did a good edit on this title, quality is excellent to, superb colours. It's a while since i've viewed it but i think mine is also on a 1200ft reel but is only around a 1000ft running for around 45 minutes, maybe 50. Similar in length to the 3 x 400ft version of dressed to kill.

Tom,

Derann did not edit this title themselves, they just re-printed it, this was one of the last batch of 3x400' titles that came out of Ken Films (there were 3 titles I can remember "Viva Las Vegas" - "The Cincinatti Kid" & "The Time Machine"), but there prints were far superior than the original Ken Films prints, as they were a little soft in focus, but Derann's were stunning, just shows what can be done from the same neg.

Thanks for that Barry, makes perfect sense, im guessing my own copy is probably a ken films print.
While the colours are excellent the print is a tad soft. When i first viewed it after being told it was a Derann print, i was a little dissapointed because aside the colours being stunning and vivid it did have the image look of those MGM 400ft prints, it is sharper than the images on my review but definatly not Derann standards.

They also re-printed at the same time the 3x400' of "The Toweing Inferno", now these re-prints would be LPP, I wonder how many Derann did of each title?

This was great! I cannot even think of a modern day film that is as fun to watch as this. Filled with music and dance and some sweet race cars, and of course Elvis and the lovely Ann-Margret. The approximate runtime for my print is 49 minutes. I haven't inspected the print for splices, but will. A bit of negative sparkle here and there. Color is amazing, but maybe a tiny bit soft

One question: How can I tell if this is a Dreann print or an earlier Ken Films print? It is LPP and Mylar, but I do not see any head or tail markings as to who issued it.

Greg,

If your print is a tiny bit soft, I would imagine you have an original Ken Films print, as every Derann print I have seen of this title is spot on definition wise! But it's good that you've still got good colour on your print, as not every print fron Ken of that era is as good in colour.

Mark may correct me on this please but i think the Derann prints are pin sharp rather than very slightly soft.

Did Ken Films issue this title on Mylar and LPP? Did Derann use AGFA stock or LPP? I am pleased with print so whether it is Ken Films or Derann isn’t a big deal. I am more curious than anything.

Tom, yes as Barry said the Derann prints are much better in definition, just that bit sharper, they also sold a few prints on the dark side, Mark

Here are a few screen pics from my print. Screen image is sharper than these pics indicate. As you can see, color is stunning. Small intermittent black line on right side which doesn't concern me. I am really pleased to have this one on the shelf here.

Looks a good print, thankfully it looks as though most of copies of this titles were on decent low fade stock.

I have bought UFA's print (which I believe printed by Ken and imported to Germany due to the blue plio magic reels are used).

The German version is on Kodak SP and you can guess the color has faded now. The Derann's is on Kodak LPP so it does still preserve most the colors. I have made a comparison screen shot frame by frame of the exact scenes below:

It certainly stands out when you see the two side by side like that.
