The Searchers Trailer

#1 by Tom Photiou , Fri Jun 03, 2022 3:23 pm

Bought this one from Barry some months ago, i thought it'll do until a 16mm feature comes up, fat chance i think, all the prints i've seen go for almost a grand , more in some cases.

As for super 8, i have not seen this one before Barry sold it to me, the colours, while fading, are still pretty good, a decent length trailer with plenty of action. It seems quite a hard one to find so last night i viewed a few shorts with this trailer ending the evening. The image is nice and sharp with very good sound and the print itself is in very good condition with hardly a mark on it.

Yes, prints of the feature itself go for quite a bit which is understandable since it is a sought after one. The trailer looks very nice!

Nice trailer to have Tom,not seen this one before. As said the feature goes for over a grand each time.
In my opinion one of the greatest western ever made,Directed by John Ford the film is believed to be one of Waynes favorite roles, even named one of his sons after his screen name.
A film very hard to find fault with in my view.

Thanks for the replies, the film is often described as the best western ever made, although i'm sure not everyone will agree with that, but it certainly is one of the best westerns.

Not seen the feature, I'm not a huge western fan, True Grit is one of John Wayne's best for me and one I do like but I do know the Searchers is highly regarded amongst Wayne fans, I actually prefer his non western roles but this trailer would be a nice addition to collectors.

As for the best western ever made, everyone knows its Charro!! Ha Ha Mark

Tom,

When I was checking this out, I had an idea it actually came off a fading master, as some of the print is better in colour than other parts, Thunderbird Films in the U.S. often did this, using fading masters, still a rare Wayne trailer though!

I had an idea that slight fade was the master, as you say, a lot of the colour is actually very good. I did have a number of those old Thunderbird reels and quite a few had this look from new. Very good selection they did as well, i wish i bought many more, some of the titles they did were never put out anywhere else.
